4 years after Mardaani, Rani Mukerji makes a comeback on the big screen with Hichki directed by Sidharth P Malhotra. The film is the official adaptation of the 2008 Hollywood film, Front Of The Class wherein Rani Mukerji is essaying the character of a class teacher having Tourette Syndrome. The theatrical trailer of the film launched back in December was attached to the prints of Tiger Zinda Hai, and managed to grab reasonable eyeballs.

Hichki was initially slated to release on 23rd February, however, the makers later pushed the film by a month, as they didn’t want the business to be affected due to exams going on across the country. In the span of one month, Aditya Chopra and Rani Mukerji hosted several special screenings of the film for the industry insiders and the film fetched a positive response from the screenings. Being a content film, Hichki isn’t expected to take a flying start at the box office, however,r a positive word of mouth should help the film get the audience over the weekend.

Will Rani Mukerji’s Hichki spring a surprise at the Box-Office just like Mardaani?

Rani’s last release, Mardaani, which saw the actress in the character of a ruthless police officer, took a fair opening of 3.75 crores, and ended its run at the box office at collections close to 36 crores. The opening day figure of Hichki is expected to be around 3.00 – 3.15 crore which is a little lower than Mardaani, however, the positive word of mouth can help Hichki cross the 30 crore mark at the box office and emerge a successful film. The film wouldn’t be a wide release across the country and it is expected to release on approximately 1000 screens, mainly targeted towards the metros.

Rani Mukerji is a very well-known face for the audience and it wouldn’t take long for the word of mouth to spread as people are aware that a film named Hichki starring Rani Mukerji is releasing on 23rd March. The trailer of Hichki suggests that it is an underdog story, a template that Indian audience loves to watch. If the director Sidharth Malhotra has managed to package the film well by adding the right element of humour and emotions, this one would be another winner for the YRF – Rani Mukerji combo.

Hichki has been produced and distributed by YRF, which makes the recovery a bit easier as compared to the other films.
