The Lion King – the last big Hollywood release in India has proved to be a huge hit. It has just been 12 days since the release of the film and it’s ready to cross the 125 crores mark.

The film after a very good first week is continuing to do well even in the second week and that too despite competition from new Bollywood releases Judgementall Hai Kya & Arjun Patiala. It, in fact, is doing better business than the combined total of both Bollywood films.

However, it seems like the film is slowly losing the race against similar Hollywood release The Jungle Book (2016). Despite getting a better opening compared to the 2016 film and good word of mouth, it seems the film won’t be able to surpass The Jungle Book.

Reason? TJB received an excellent word of mouth and despite getting a lower opening compared to TLK, it followed an incredible trending and ended up doing a lifetime business of 188 crores in India.

Let’s have a look at the Day to Day business of both films so far-

The Lion King Daily Breakdown

Day 7 – 5.08 crores

Day 10 – 14.50 crores*
Day 11 – 3.50 crores*

The Jungle Book Daily Breakdown

Day 2 – 13.51 crores
Day 3 – 16.87 crores
Day 4 – 7.60 crores
Day 5 – 7.07 crores
Day 6 – 7.97 crores
Day 7 10.97 crore
Day 8 8.02 crores
Day 9 8.51 crores
Day 10 10.67 crores

12 Day Total Business – 112.74 crores

The Lion King is still leading as far as the overall total is concerned but the gap is reducing with each passing day. The only reason behind this is that The Lion King hasn’t got the level of acceptance, The Jungle Book had got in 2016. It’ll be interesting to see in the days to come how close or far both films end up to each other as far as the lifetime business is concerned.
