The Hollywood film Street Fighter hit theatres worldwide on October 16. There is a lot of chatter and buzz around the franchise film, which features an ensemble cast. The film is enjoying a comfortable release, with no major films opening alongside it. Existing movies like Other Mommy and Verity also pose little threat to Street Fighter.

Paramount Pictures released the movie, which features a star-studded cast, including Noah Centineo, Andrew Koji, Callina Liang, Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i, David Dastmalchian, Cody Rhodes, Eric André, Andrew Schulz, Vidyut Jammwal, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, and Jason Momoa. The film’s ratings remain under wraps, and a lot will depend on word of mouth during its theatrical run.

Street Fighter Thursday Previews

Ahead of its grand release on Friday, the film held preview screenings on Thursday evening. These previews are important, as audience reception can significantly impact opening-day collections. At the US box office, Street Fighter grossed a solid $4 million on Thursday. This collection trails only Mortal Kombat II’s $5.2 million preview haul. With this performance, Street Fighter secured the second-biggest opening preview ever for a fighting video game adaptation at the US box office.

Eyes Franchise-Best Debut

With solid Thursday preview collections, Street Fighter is poised to score the biggest opening in the franchise’s history. It is also projected to record the second-biggest opening ever for a fighting video game adaptation. The film’s opening weekend is currently projected to reach up to $35 million in the US. This would mark the biggest opening for a Street Fighter films, surpassing the $6.9 million opening of the 1994 film of the same name.

What Is The Film About?

The film follows estranged street fighters Ryu and Ken Masters as they reunite after Chun-Li recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament, a brutal showdown fuelled by skill, fate, and fury.
