Exactly a year ago Anushka Sharma’s Phillauri had released. That film was basically a love story with a supernatural element to it, what with the leading lady playing a friendly ghost. Now that Pari has released, it too has a supernatural element to it though Anushka’s character is far away from being friendly in the film.
The film’s opening of 4.36 crores though is on the same lines as Phillauri which had brought in 4.02 crores on its opening day. Budget of both films is in the same range too though it has to be seen how far does Pari go from this point on.
Though there was a partial holiday of Holi in many parts of the country, the advantage was diluted to a major extent due to the fact that many theaters were shut down too at least till the afternoon. This pretty much neutralized the holiday advantage. Also, there was major competition from last week’s set release Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety which is a major success amongst the family audience, for whom this stayed on to be their first choice.
The opening weekend of Phillauri was 15.25 crore and now it has to be seen whether Pari manages to catch up with this total.
Second release of the week, Veerey Ki Wedding, hasn’t really taken much of an opening. The Pulkit Samrat, Kriti Kharbanda and Jimmy Sheirgill starrer has stayed under the 1 crore mark. It has to be seen whether the film manages to see some momentum building over the weekend.
