Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Padmaavat has left behind its troublesome past, which the movie faced before release, and now, there seems to be no end to its record-setting spree.
Padmaavat stars Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati, Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji and Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh in lead roles. The movie also sees Aditi Rao Hydari and Jim Sarbh in pivotal roles. The film is inspired by Malik Muhammad Jayasi’s 16th-century epic poem, Padmavat.
The movie had received some amazing reviews and people are loving it too. Well, it could clearly be seen at the box office that this magnum opus will enjoy it’s run to the fullest at the box office. The movie has earned 6.30 crore on Saturday taking the grand total to 245.80 crores. The film has become Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh’s highest grossing film till date. The film is inching towards the 250 crore mark at the box office which is a huge achievement despite the film being ban in many states in India.
Padmaavat opened after a months-long battle with Rajput Karni Sena and fringe groups opposing the film’s release. Several death threats were also issued for Deepika Padukone and director Bhansali.
Speaking to IANS, Deepika said: “As far as my film is concerned, I had said this earlier as well, there is no stopping it. I think it deserves all the kind of love and blessings that we are receiving. I think box-office numbers are again testament of that and it’s not over yet.”
Padmaavat, which was not released in Madhya Pradesh last month due to security reasons, is likely to hit the screens in the state this week. Film distributors and theatre owners have agreed to screen the film after the state government assured to provide proper safety.
The movie is now going to feel the competition with Akshay Kumar’s PadMan which is being loved by the moviegoers and it’ll be interesting to see how that works at the box office too.
