1) Iron Man was 8th highest-grossing film of 2008 worldwide. It did more business than films like Wall E, The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Sex and the City & Twilight that year.
2) Domestically (In the US) it was only behind The Dark Knight which was a sensation that year. Iron Man did a business of $318 million in the US compared to $531 million of The Dark Knight. The Robert Downey Jr. starrer was 2nd highest grosser of that year domestically.
3) Iron Man gave Robert Downey Jr. the kind of success he was looking for a long time. The film proved to be his top grosser at that time and is still his 8th highest grosser of all time. Iron Man’s worldwide lifetime business is more than his Sherlock Holmes’ films and only behind IM sequels and other Avengers films.
4) Iron Man broke the record of major superhero films like Hulk (2003), Batman Begins (2005) The Mask (1994), Superman Returns (2006), X-Men (2000) etc. It was the 5th highest-grossing superhero film of all time till then and was only behind Spider-Man 3 (2007): $895 million, Spider-Man (2002): $822 million, Spider-Man 2 (2004): $789 million & The Incredibles $632 million (2004).
