From Sunil Dutt, Nargis, Raaj Kumar & Rajendra Kumar’s Mother India To Guru Dutt’s Pyaasa – Top Bollywood Box Office Grossers Of 1957

For Bollywood, the year 1957 was a huge one. First of all, the cult classic Mother India released in the year and did record business of 4.5 crores. The film starring Sunil Dutt, Raaj Kumar, Nargis & Rajendra Kumar in main roles was the biggest hit till that time and broke all previous records.

Dilip Kumar’s Naya Daur and Guru Dutt’s much-loved Pyaasa also released in that year and took next spots in the highest grossers chart.

The year was also blessed with some other major successes like V Shantaram’s Do Aankhen Barah Haath, Shammi Kapoor’s Tumsa Nahin Dekha, Dev Anand’s Paying Guest and Kishore Kumar’s Asha.

In fact, Kishore Kumar enjoyed two major grossers- Asha & Musafir. Raj Kapoor’s Sharada also managed a place in Top 10 but sadly it wasn’t a major success.
