It was an unexciting weekend at the box office, what with neither Bobby Jasoos nor Lekar Hum Deewana Dil bringing on moolah. Of course it was a given that only word of mouth would take these films forward since the buzz was just about decent and there was no craze created for audience to step in on Day One itself. Still, poor opening day for both the films was shocking to say the least.
One thought that Bobby Jasoos would find an audience at the single screens but an opening day of less than 2 crore meant that going was to be tough for the Vidya Balan starrer. The reviews were decent for the film though many complained about the climax which was rather unexcitingly told. There was hope though that since Kangana Ranaut’s Queen had opened to an even lesser number, Bobby Jasoos too would grow with good word of mouth. However, with average response from the audience, there was no exponential growth for Bobby Jasoos, as a result of which the film had a weekend of 7 crore plus.
Lekar Hum Deewana Dil had a disastrous opening all over again with reviews not being kind either. The collections read in a few lakhs from all major territories, as a result of this Arif Ali directed film has turned out to be one of the lowest grossing films with a newcomer cast. The opening day just about managed to cross the 50 lakh mark and not much improvement over the weekend meant that just about 1.5 crore came in for this launchpad of Armaan Jain and Deeksha Seth.
Poor response to both film’s was best taken advantage of by Ek Villain which collected more than double of their combined collections.
