While Zeenat Aman may have expressed her displeasure with the rehashed version of her Dum maaro dum song, Yana Gupta has given her a reason to smile with the remix of Laila o laila.
“I liked the song when I heard it. They have retained the original version and at the same time have given the song a new flavour. It’s got a rustic, ethnic feel and I liked it a lot. So I’m supporting it,” Zeenat said referring to the remixed version of the song that will appear in Chalo Dilli. Even Yana was thrilled that Zeenat liked the song.
While Yana shimmies to this Zeenat Aman song from Qurbani (1980), Deepika Padukone tried the same with Zeenat’s song Dum maaro dum from Hare Rama Hare Krishna (1971). But the song backlashed after Dev Anand opposed the song at the very beginning and even Zeenat Aman was not flattered by the song. She even said that she was “deeply disappointed by the re-mix” and was left “cold” by it. Deepika’s mini-skirt swaying act even failed to make an impact among audiences.
Though Yana does get the catcalls with her Laila act, there’s no denying that her wardrobe in the song is heavily inspired from Christina Aguilera’s costume in her number Lady Marmalade.
