From Hollywood to Tollywood, the Hindi film industry has never shied away from looking outwards for inspiration for its films.
Singham, which releases on 22 July, is the remake of its Tamil namesake Singam. Ajay Devgan plays the role of the tough-as-nails cop in the Hindi film while Suriya was the policeman in the Tamil version. Koimoi.com takes a look at some other south Indian films which inspired Bollywood:
Ready – remake of Ready (Telugu)
Wanted – remake of Pokiri (Telugu)
Even Salman’s return as the raw action star in Wanted, was a remake of the Telugu Pokiri.
Ghajini – remake of Ghajini (Tamil)

Even Shah Rukh Khan’s amplified super-star persona in Billu was a retelling of the Malayalam film Katha Parayumbol.
