Sajid Khan, Sophie Choudry, Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Ajay Devgan, Anil Kapoor, Zayed Khan, Madhur Bhandarkar & Farhan Akhtar came together on Thursday (23th September, 2010) to urge the people of the country to maintain peace and harmony once the Ayodhya verdict is out. The Bollywood stars went ahead with the event although the Supreme Court has stayed the verdict and will hear the plea for deferment of the judgement on September 28.
The release of Ranbir and Priyanka’s film Anjaana Anjaani had to be postponed from 24th September to 1st October as the verdict on the Babri Masjid-Ramjanmabhoomi case was due to be delivered by the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on that day.”We are known for our unity. If you disagree with the verdict please don’t resort to violence. There are peaceful methods to resolve it. Please maintain peace and order,” said Ranbir.
Priyanka said, “Whatever may be the verdict, we should maintain peace and harmony as it is a very important day for India.”
In his appeal, Farhan said, “We should stay together and shouldn’t let down the reputation of our country. The media should report responsibly and should not sensationalise anything.”
Actor Anil Kapoor said, “People must not resort to violence that would hamper the progress, brotherhood and unity of our country.”
Ajay Devgan, who was recently roped in by the Mumbai Police to be part of their ‘Jagrut Mumbaikar’ campaign, said, “Whatever be the outcome, as a devout Indian I appeal to all my fellow countrymen to respect the judgement and maintain peace and calm.”
Singer and actress Sophie Choudry urged people to maintain calm. “Love the gist of what Zayed (Khan) said: That we are all sons & daughters of the same mother; INDIA. We must love, respect & protect her from further harm!” she tweeted.
Nice to see the industry joining hands for a cause like this. The Supreme Court has stayed the verdict and will hear the plea for deferment of the judgement on September 28.
