With a career break through performance in a role opposite the Badshah to the latest Bijlee avatar in her last flick, Anushka Sharma stands as an embodiment of creativity, talent and incredible passion. Quiz her about her journey and the always punctual and perfect lady answers with that sparkling smile, “It has been a long journey but not a tiring one. I enjoy every moment of whatever I am doing. The audience appreciation just adds on to the great feeling and vibe that I get from the industry. I’m flattered! I was pretty young when I did Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Today, when I look back I feel happy because I have not just evolved as an actor, but as a person too.”
With a stellar performance as the on-the-bounce wedding planner in Band Baaja Baraat, Anushka has clearly moved in to the heavyweight club, with the Media going oo-la-la about everything that she does. But it was definitely clinching a Best Actress trophy at an Awards show two years back dethroning some power house performers like Kajol and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan from the coveted throne which made her life. “That day was the best day, that moment was the best moment of my life. I felt at the top of the world! It was more of an epiphany to me as it made me look at my work with a lot more passion and interest. It’s a great feeling to be appreciated, but at the same time you know that you have raised the bar and you can’t dwindle. The journey so far has been eventful! I have worked really hard to be where I’m today”, gushed in an excited Anushka.
The leggy actress who adores and wishes to have played Manisha Koirala’s role in Dil Se is a hardcore fashionista. From jumpsuits to long gowns, Anarkalis to the LBDs, this woman has donned all with élan and equal panache. Talk about her innate dressing sense and she laughs it all off. “I always loved dressing myself and in my head I know I am the prettiest woman around although I know that in reality, its not what is true. But then, I am not too picky about my dresses. Making myself look beautiful comes quite naturally to me and that is one quality that has benefited me a lot.”
She is sweet with a hint of salt in it as we can probably put it. Unabashedly straight forward and practical to the core, Anushka confides that she inherits that trait from her father. “My father is an army man and I have always had these short principles that he has taught me. It makes me rude at times, but its all for the right reasons. I don’t want someone to stand up for me and fight. I am strong enough to do that myself and that’s why I take on my fights all alone. I can’t really be dishonest to someone just for the fun that I get out of it. I like calling a spade, a spade! Maybe all that doesn’t really work in the industry which favours diplomacy but then again I am thankful to my parents for instilling these genes into my body. I am the Anushka you get to see. I am real, at least,” was the words of wisdom from the otherwise happy-go-lucky girl.
