Abhay Deol is one actor who has never shied from speaking his mind. Whether it is taking a stand for the brutal George Floyd murder or lashing out at the ‘woke celebrities’ and the hypocritical Indian, the actor has always called a spade what it is.
Now, Abhay Deol has taken his social media handle to open up about how award shows demoted him and Farhan Akhtar to mere “supporting actors”.
Taking to his official Instagram handle, Abhay Deol has shared a still from Zoya Akhtar directed, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. But what has got the fancy of Netizens is the caption that the Dev D actor had for the image. He wrote, “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara”, released in 2011. Need to chant this title to myself every day nowadays! Also, a great watch when anxious or stressed. I would like to mention that almost all the award functions demoted me and Farhan from main leads, and nominated us as “supporting actors”. Hrithik and Katrina were nominated as “actors in a leading role”. So by the industry’s own logic, this was a film about a man and a woman falling in love, with the man supported by his friends for whatever decisions he takes.”
Well, Abhay Deol did not stop there. Known for taking his stand and speaking his mind, the actor’s caption further read, “There are many covert and overt ways in which people in the industry lobby against you. In this case, it was shamelessly overt. I, of course, boycotted the awards but Farhan was ok with it. #familyfareawards. Very creative artwork @kalakkii.”
Directed by Zoya Akhtar, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara was like a Déjà vu for those who had watched Dil Chahta Hai. Revolving around the life of 3 friends, the film spoke about family, friendship and love through the course of a beautiful road trip. ZNMD also featured Katrina Kaif and Kalki Koechlin in pivotal roles alongside Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol.
