A local court on August 25, 2010 imposed a fine of Rs. 500 jointly on Ketan Mehta, the director of Mangal Pandey – The Rising, producer Bobby Mehta and star Aamir Khan for failing to appear in court in relation to the five-year-old case. The court was hearing a writ petition alleging wrong portrayal of freedom fighter Mangal Pandey in the movie released in 2005. The chairperson of the CBFC and the Director of Publications are also named in the case. The court fixed September 13 as the next date of hearing.
