One has to agree that the class of comedies in Bollywood is completely sub-standard. Asking for witty comedies is a crime and even when we have slapstick, it can’t even reach the ‘Dumb and Dumber‘ levels. Newest entrant into the not-so-funny comedy genre is Welcome Back.
The film is a sequel of the 2007 Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif starrer Welcome. This time, the film stars John Abraham and Shruti Haasan as the lead pair where as the rest of the characters of Paresh Rawal, Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor remain the same. Also joining the cast are Dimple Kapadia, Naseeruddin Shah and debutante Sakshi Maggo.
The trailer stretches for over three minutes and its almost like we have seen the entire movie. If you have seen Welcome, this sequel will just be like a role reversal as according to the new plot, Uday and Majnu played by Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor have now left their ‘gunda’ business and are looking for a civilized groom for their sister. Of course, she (Shruti Haasan’s character) falls in love with John’s character who is a ‘tapori’ lad. All this and add oodles of slapstick jokes.
Basically, Welcome Back forms a done-to-death plot, loud acting and grandly choreographed dance sequences which has the entire town dancing to tunes which are either Punjabi or plain blasting beats.
