Romance isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. And while Varun Dhawan has proven his command over comedy, his expertise of enacting romance is still in the blur. In an interview with Koimoi, when we asked the actor what is the quintessential element to focus on, for any actor who is trying his hand at perfecting the romantic genre, he replied, “The story is such here that the audiences must root for Kavya and Humpty. When one is doing a romantic film, it is important to be able to connect with the audiences. No matter which character I am playing in a film like that, the emotion of loving a person or loved and lost a person must come out. That is there in this film.”

The actor gave us a peekaboo of the film’s climax scene. He said, “The film’s emotional track is very strong. In the climax shot, I was drunk when I was performing the scene. We shot it at 4 o’ clock in the morning. I was supposed to be drunk on paper as well. I told Shashank that it was 4 in the morning and wasn’t sure whether I will get into the zone or not so let me drink.”

Varun went on to tell us how after multiple retakes, the rain and all the waiting from it, by the time it was time to really shoot the scene Varun was not in a state to shoot the climax at all.

The actor continued with, “In the actual scene which is almost 6 minutes long, I am laughing, I am crying , I am getting angry. I am doing everything. And the camera was rolling all through. That scene is very special to me. And hope it comes out exactly how it was sketched and imagined.”

The tale about this particular incident goes that Varun had to drink vodka for the scene to bring authenticity to it and the hangover from the tiresome long shoot and the alcohol was enough to get him late for an important meeting with Karan Johar the next day. The film’s climax has Varun unleashing raw emotions and presenting himself for real. Varun’s vulnerability is expected to add power to the said scene, making the climax even more impactful.

Directed by Shashank Khaitan, the film stars Varun along with Alia Bhatt and popular TV actor Siddharth Shukla in lead roles. The film is slated to release on 4th July.
