After watching the Shaandaar trailer, ask me what my first reaction was and I would say, how amazingly comfortable and crackling is Alia Bhatt and Shahid Kapoor’s chemistry. According to me, the first thing that needs to be perfect for a rom-com is to have not just two gorgeous looking actors but also their believable chemistry and Shaandaar exactly has that.
For any love story to bloom, there either needs to be a conflict or a water-tight family backdrop and Vikas Bahl chooses a wedding instead, which is probably the smartest choice of all. Indian weddings are extraordinary and just like Hum Aapke Hain Koun revolves around a family and weddings, Shaandaar goes urban with its approach with a destination wedding in Leeds as its mainstay.
Shahid Kapoor plays Jagjnder Joginder, a name that we expect to have a good laughable history to in the film. His chocolate boy looks go a notch higher in this one with a short crop and as the wedding planner, he certainly is an irresistible one at that. Alia on the other hand plays the ‘ghar-ki-choti’ who is ‘pataka’ material like Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. She is dreamy-eyed and the whole element of her fantasizing is quite a unique trait for a character. The duo look great together in the picturesque locations of Leeds and that is where the film win on the visual appeal quotient.
Pankaj Kapoor plays Alia’s father and well, he makes up perfectly as the anxious, nervous Dad at his daughter’s wedding. The scenes where Shahid and Pankaj share screen space in the trailer are hilarious. Sanjay Kapoor also makes an appearance in the trailer but it needs little mention here.
After the magnificent Queen, naturally our expectations from Vikas Bahl are sky high. While the trailer looks promising, it will be interesting to see if the film lives up to it. Amit Trivedi is picked up for the music of the film and I am super-excited to hear the soundtrack considering his previous successful albums.
Overall, Shaandaar looks like the perfect rom-com we have been waiting for!
