What has taken the industry by surprise is the success of Grand Masti. Making it to the 100 crore club proved that there is an audience for a film of that order. When actor Akshay Kumar got candid in an interview with Koimoi, the actor specified that he will have no inhibitions about doing a sex comedy. He said, “I have done a Garam Masala before which was a sex comedy. If a good script comes my way I will surely be a part of it or produce a sex comedy.”

But the taste of sex comedies are fast becoming distasteful. Akshay however pointed out it is a matter of mindset that can’t be changed. He continued, “If one thinks sex is vulgar, I can’t change his/her mindset. For instance, Grand Masti did well. If one doesn’t relate or like the genre, he/she is free to give the film a miss.”

Akshay justified his remark by saying, “As far as I’m concerned, I don’t mind doing sex-comedies as long as the script is brilliant. At the end of day, an actor is just doing his job. Nobody turns sex maniac by doing sex-comedy. Vulgarity doesn’t become the part of your life. Take a film as a film. Let it be reel and not real.”

Holiday‘s producer Vipul Shah in an interview to Koimoi yesterday echoed the same sentiment about the trade angles of sex comedies. He said that Grand Masti was a film that catered to the male audiences and it will be harsh to say it didn’t deserve to touch the 100 crore mark.

Despite scathing criticisms from critics, Bollywood biggies are intelligent enough to avoid acting prurient and are open to making sex comedies. Meanwhile, Akshay is all set to promote Holiday which is the Hindi version of A.R Murugados’ successful Tamil film Thuppaki. Directed by the Ghajini maverick himself, the film stars Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha in lead roles.
