National award winning director Omung Kumar has finally announced his next film after Mary Kom. His next film will be based on the life story of Sarabjit Singh and will be co-produced by Zeishan Quadri. The Sarabjit Singh biopic was earlier reported to be directed by Hansal Mehta and reasons for the sudden change of plan are not known. However, with the success of Mary Kom, there are a lot of expectations riding on Omung.
Omung confirmed the news, saying, “Yes, I will be directing and co-producing Sarabjit. Even though I have three scripts lined up, this will be my next film after Mary Kom.”
Producer-partner Zeishan Quadri says, “We finalized Omung Kumar recently. He’s the perfect choice because Mary Kom was both a critically acclaimed film and a commercial success. Omung Kumar will start shooting the film in October and we plan to send it to Cannes next year and release it by the end of May 2016.”
The story of Sarabjit Singh’s death created a national ruckus and Dalbir’s struggle to free her brother captured the nation’s attention. Writer Rajesh Beri and Creative Rajesh Nair have been involved in this project with Mukta Arts right from the beginning.
