The trailer of Roy starring Ranbir Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez and Arjun Rampal released and it is nothing short of a good combination of thriller and romance. The trailer looks as good as a fiction novel that is dark and intriguing right from the word go.
Directed by debutante Vikramjit Singh, the trailer ensures that the film is high on style with the use of Cadillacs, Typewriters and scenic locations. In the three minute long trailer, there is a lot you learn about the story and also a lot that remains a mystery. Introducing us to the characters, the trailer features Arjun Rampal who plays a Casanova director Kabir. With his typewriter and a cigarette held in style, it’s as if the inspiration is drawn from the famed playwright Arthur Miller. Miller too was known to be a stylish gentleman, who knew how to tell a story and it seems Arjun pulls off a successful Miller in this film.
Ranbir Kapoor, on the other hand, is ‘Roy’ the ‘dynamic character’ as stated in the trailer. He may be a thief in the film but mostly his story seems to be that of a ‘good guy doing bad things’ typical for any commercial hero playing a slightly negative character. The actor looks promising in the role and this once again suggests Ranbir’s choice for versatility.
The film’s leading lady Jacqueline Fernandez is in her most challenging role as she dons a double role of Ayesha a filmmaker and Tia in the film. She looks stunning in all the frames as she brings the vintage look back and even reminds us the good old days of Katherine Hepburn.
Roy is high on style, mystery and a reminder of the Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn era of the movies. As long as the film’s curious trailers result in a jaw-dropping story in theaters, this film could be a good getaway from the regular Bollywood dramas.
