Highway has been promoted as an exceedingly intriguing film especially for the mystery weaved around its characters. The cast , crew and the filmmaker all have been strict in not revealing any bit about the film’s lead characters. The interesting pairing of very diametrically opposite actors like Randeep Hooda who sticks to playing the grey hued characters and Alia Bhatt who is typically bubbly and fashionably candyfloss in her ways.
In a candid interview with Koimoi, Randeep spoke about his character in the film. He said, “I play a man named Mahabir Bhati. We have been very quiet about the character because it would be better if it is less spoken about. There is certain mystery to the character which will evolve through the film’s screenplay. I am playing a Gujjar man with a criminal past. He is one of the society’s have-nots just like me. My father went on to become a doctor and gave us a very different life but most from the community are truck drivers and farmers. Mahabir is someone with a dark, criminal past and that is a very important leg of the story.”
On asking Alia about her character, she was relatively less tight lipped about it. The actress said, ” I play Veera Tripathi who is a Delhi based girl from a wealthy family. Highway‘s story is such that my character lands up in an unexpected situation which pushes her out of her comfort zone and hence she embarks on a journey that will help her discover herself.”
Now that we know a little about the terrain of the film, perhaps the build up for the narrative helps in getting us more excited for the treat Imtiaz Ali has in store for us in this treat of a film he is about to offer to us. Highway hits the screens this Friday.
