There was a lot of hullabaloo involved in the release of maverick Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Ramleela that has evoked scathing criticism for hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus. Detained on the grounds of containing vulgar sex and explicit scenes, the petitioners had requested to change the film’s name as it portrays a very misleading picture of the mythology. After a debacle of sorts involving a quasi-legal battle, the film is finally going to release on the scheduled date, i.e, 15th November, 2013.

Passing with a U/A certificate from the Censor Board which too had objections to the raunchy scenes, the official press note from Bhansali Productions informed that the film has been passed without any hassles. All rumors regarding the buzz that the film’s release is going to withheld have been put to rest. A popular Bollywood insider tweeted saying that the film is all set to release on the day it was scheduled for.

The press release from the producers say the following –

“The forthcoming Hindi cinematograph film Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ramleela (“said Film”) has been censored by the Central Board of the Film Certification under the Cinematograph Act, 1952 and granted UA Certificate on 01.11.2013.  It appears that some misinformation is being carried out regarding the said Film which we would like to clarify and state that the said Film is inspired and based on work of William Shakespeare Romeo and Juliet . The said Film is neither related to Ramleela folklore/traditional performance associated with Lord Ram nor related to Rasleela associated with Lord Krishna. Ram the character in the said Film does not depict or resemble LORD SHRI RAM in any manner.

The said Film neither intends nor attempts to insult, wound or outrage the religion, religious feelings or religious beliefs of any class of citizens of India.
