The image of Ram Kapoor has changed over the years. And though the actor began his journey in films with Sudhir Mishra’s Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, the actor struck gold in television primarily with shows like Kasamh Se, Bade Achchey Lagte Hai helping him acquire a super star status in Television. In a candid talk with Koimoi, actor Ram Kapoor admits as much as television has helped him blossom, transition to films was a necessary move for his career.
He said, “For some reason every time I am saying this it is shocking everybody but honestly I am dying to do outrageous stuff like romancing my female self in the film. The minute Sajid approached me with the idea I said done. I have loved television and been immensely lucky at it. It has given me everything but the drawback of television is while you do become a household name, with name, respect, fame, money it doesn’t offer you much variety. The more popular your show gets, the more difficult it becomes for you to extricate yourself from the character you are playing and play it for a longer time. As an artist your growth stops.”
Ram continues, “The reason why I am dying to do character roles in films is because there is so much to do here. I am dying to do things as outrageous as possible. If you check the films of mine that had released in the last few years, you’ll realize they are very different stuff with variety in them. I wanted to be an actor to play different characters and now after 10-20 years I am getting to do that.”
But after the failure of Himmatwala wasn’t working with Sajid deterring? He quickly replied, “I know Sajid for 20 years. Me, Sajid and Farah were together since college. When I was in Los Angeles, Sajid has come stayed with me. We have gone to Vegas together gambled and everything. Working with him was giving myself in the hands of a friend. If someone new had come to me, asking to do a role like this I would have had to think about it but it was Saj. He is someone who can do no wrong to me or harm me. “
Ram Kapoor is all set to appear alongside Saif Ali Khan and Riteish Deshmukh in Sajid Khan’s next titled Humshakals. The film is prepped up to release on 20th June.
