It’s that time of the year when the radio jolts out one after the other bhai-behen songs for the auspicious occasion of Rakhi. Phoolon ka taro ka sab ka kehna hai, ek hazaron mein meri behna hai is what the day is all about. Yes, its Raksha-Bandhan, one of the most celebrated festivals in India as the bond between a brother and her sister is celebrated amidst lots of celebrations and merry making.
On the auspicious occasion of Rakhi, Koimoi.com brings you the best bhai-behen pair that wooed us on screen this year. Have a look.

Farhan Akhtar-Divya Dutta

A film that managed to stock up the praises and accolades much for its brilliant picturization and befitting portrayal of Milkha Singh’s life, Rakeysh Mehra’s Bhaag Milkha Bhaag reached a notch higher with the essence of a sweet brother-sister relationship being dropped in between Milkha and his sister, Ishar. Divya Dutta and Farhan Akhtar, both known to be powerful performers on screen nailed the act with immense conviction as their bond and love made us cling on to our siblings like no other. And not the forget, the talented kid Japtej Singh, the younger Milkha, who actually grounded the onscreen sibling chemistry with Dutta, that was furthered by Farhan. How it reminded me of my sister, is well past history.

Sonu Sood – Shruti Haasan

A love tale which was more a saga of sacrifice and the bond that existed between a sister and her brother, Ramaiya Vastavaiya might not have been received too well, but the story of Raghuveer and his unconditional love for Sona, his sister tugged the right chords. At a time when tears rolled down some faces, I simply feel that more than the OTT comedy, the forced buffoonery and the immense romantic hullaboo, it was only the sweet relationship between a brother and his sister that made Ramaiya Vastavaiya worth a watch. And when Sonu Sood sacrifices himself for Shruti and her boy-love, the film becomes more touching than ever.

Deepika Padukone – John Abraham

The most stylish and perhaps the deadliest combo when it came to playing siblings on screen, Deepika and John went head to head in Abbas-Mustan’s Racy thriller sequel. Although the plot really didn’t provide any scope for their relationship to blossom, the tender jealousy and enragement among the two definitely made way for a new trend in cinema as well. Just in case, you think this is trendy, come on, you can’t really betray your own sibling for power. Would you? We bet not!

Sushant Singh – Amrita Puri

Kai Po Che! is by far one of the best movies that has released this year. Filled by some terrific performances by all the lead actors, Kai Po Che! stands tall amidst some heavyweights. But the delicate love-hate relationship between Sushant’s Ishaan and Amrita ‘Aisha’ Puri’s Vidya definitely reminded us of our own siblings. How we fight for the TV remote all the time, how we protect our sisters from all our guy-friends, their relationship was a taste of reality, in the sweetest manner possible.

Vishesh Tiwari- Sara Arjun

Before you start wondering as to their actual identities on screen, here we refer to the sweetest kids on screen this year, Little Bobo and his sister Isha from Ek Thi Daayan. Fighting against the Daayan or playing hide and seek, or just ending up making a lot of goof-ups, these two partners in crime made us laugh and scream our hearts out as we watched the little darlings go hand-to-hand together taking up a battle against the demon in the house, Diana. Lovely would be an understatement!

Riya Vij – Arbaz Kadwani

As we say, these two are unconventionally talented and personally, my favourite from the year. A feel good film that reminds us of the imperfections that we all are endowed with, Gippi not only points out that there’s a Gippi in all of us, but it also helps us accept all our imperfections and lead a happy life. And with a brother as cool and helpful as Booboo in tow, life becomes a lot easier. Hurdles vanish and far fetched dreams look achievable just at an arm’s length. Such is the power of the love between a brother and a sister and Gippi testifies that with a magical lively spirit.
