Another year has gone by and we are already out with the verdict of who has been the best from the year, with many awards ceremonies felicitating the true victors with grandeur and elegance! And now that we already have a New Year with a plethora of new releases, some of them, starring our heavyweight Bolly guns, who are all expected to take the box office by a storm!
With Chennai Express, Krrish 3 and Dhoom 3 setting the new 200 crore trend, the 100 crore phenomenon has almost diminished to a meager expectation. From a time when superstars were expected to trod across the 100 crore barrier with their films, today it is just another achievable feat. But with few of the biggest superstars setting in the new 200 crore trend in Bollywood, 2014 is expected to be a year of thunderous performances and superlative money spinning at the box offices. Reason? Each of our industry heavyweight actor has already planned up their schedules and releases this year, evoking a lot of euphoria among the audiences.
We, at Koimoi have decided to bring you what to expect from 2014 and which film has created the biggest hype right from the onset, this year!
Another unusually quirky tale of sorts, Rajkumar Hirani and Aamir Khan’s second outing has yet again created a whirlpool of news almost! With Aamir promising a 300 crore mark with Dhoom 3 and missing it by just a whisker, all eyes would be on Aamir’s P.K. where he apparently plays an alien, to do the magic for him. And with the Hirani-Khan duo being the ultimate trendsetter creating the coveted 200 crore club in the industry, it won’t come as a surprise. Yet another social drama with an apt message involved, P.K. might be the ultimate return of the perfectionist, given the caliber of an actor he is and the dismal performance he put up in D:3! But with numerous news floating around, the effervescent Anushka Sharma playing the lead and most importantly Aamir’s inane yet cutely gibberish alienated maneuvers (Read: he dresses up like a girl in a scene, he goes nude in another), P.K has already grabbed eyeballs!
He has the Midas touch when it comes to Action Entertainers. He is by far the most successful director from the commercial front and all his directorial ventures have gone on to smash records at the box office. And when Rohit Shetty decides to return with his muse Ajay Devgn on screen yet again, there would be firecrackers at the box office, without a doubt! The Rohit-Ajay pair had set screens ablaze with their Singham roaring with thunderous impact and now that they coalesce their super talents for the sequel, along with Rohit’s favourite Kareena Kapoor, things are looking up for the Singham 2 team.
Once Upon A Time, he was the ruling king, raining crores all over the place. He was the only actor who single handedly earned 400 crores in a year but off late, Akshay’s connect with the audience seems to have lost. Trying out similar stereotypic roles and doing the same dhishoom dhishoom maar-dhaar with no added mirch masala, Akshay’s last few outings have been nothing but bland and boring. But now that, Ghajini’s director A.R. Murgadoss, who created ripples around with the invention of the 100 crore club, has decided to cast Akshay in his next action thriller of sorts, expectations have sky-rocketed. Holiday which combines the winning concept of terrorism and sleeper cells is a remake of the south superhit Thupakki and has already grabbed headlines with its latest motion poster and trailer. And hopefully with a director as experienced at Murugadoss, it would not take much effort for the film to create and thrash already set benchmarks!
They had charmed us with their crackling chemistry and that sensuous kiss in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and this year, it would be another Bang at the box office as the Hrithik-Katrina pair shimmers their way with Bang Bang! A film that has been getting delayed, thanks to a variety of reasons, is actually adapted from the Tom Cruise-Cameron Diaz starrer Knight and Day and is usually an action-romantic film. Embellished with an array of superlative stunts, chases and adrenaline pumping action, Bang Bang is definitely going to set new benchmarks and might just outscore Dhoom in that department! Plus presence of Sidharth Anand assures breathtaking picturesque shots coupled with an easy breezy love saga! Who knows?
Bhaijaan returned to the silver screen with a film as noble a concept as Jai Ho but it didn’t smash records like all his other films. Although not a fizzled out film, Jai Ho could even touch the mere shackles of commercial success that Salman Khan is a towering testament of. But with Kick, Salman has decided to yet again defy industry norms and do his usual banal and gibberish tod-fod in total Sal-man isshtyle. Having Sajid Nadiadwala on board will as well be of great help! Having the producing prowess making some of the most heavy duty commercially viable films, Sajid teams up with Salman and Jacqueline for this laugh out loud roller coaster action comedy! And we just wish that Salman breaks the jinx like he did with his Dabangg! And trust me, he has already Kick-started what he sought out to do. All puns intended.
He was the reason behind some brilliant war sagas like Kabul Express, New York and Ek Tha Tiger. Now when Kabir Khan has decided to yet again come up with something as deliciously packed as his other films, he has signed on his favourite Katrina along with the Nawaab Khan for his magnum opus. An action thriller, based on the lines of ETT, it would be amazing to see how Katrina and Saif work it up for Phantom. And given the news about Katrina’s bonding with Kareena on the sets of the film going viral and the pictures from the set creating ripples all around, Phantom has already set the guns soaring! And this will be one film where Katrina might just have to do a lot more than just Dance!
Rahul Dholakia’s name was always in the headlines of all popular tabloids ever since he approached King Khan to play the lead and he gave a nod to it. But it hit the peak when Farhan Akhtar was signed in to. The story of a Gujrati bootlegger, Raees would mark the pairing of Farhan and Shah Rukh who play the cop and the bootlegger respectively. Earlier, Farhan and SRK might have gifted us with their Don franchises but Raees would mark the first time, where they will share screen together! After wasting his acting prowess with films like Chennai Express, it would be good to watch SRK charm up the screens again in a period action drama this time! And more than the lead pairing, it’s the Farhan-SRK pair that’s baking away and walking away with the cake too. Ohh, not to forget, the cherry too.
