The movie’s core is simplicity and realistic story telling. Along with marvellous performance by Kangana Ranaut and the entire starcast, what worked for this film was the story. The movie was an adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s novel of the same name, which is his personal story and what makes the movie so acceptable is that the story was real. The story was the hero here which pulled off the film beautifully. Love story at its heart and the two regional animosities was well brought up in the movie. Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor starrer, Abhishek Verman directorial 2 States takes a spot in our list of nominations for film with best story 2014.

The story was thrilling and kept the mind of the audience on check. With some occasional entertainment, this film’s story worked really well with an intense subject like sleeper cell. The story went back and forth and that kept the audience guessing about the next very moment. Surely Holiday managed well because of this well-crafted story that helped it to be one of the best in 2014. Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha starrer, A. With such a serious issue at the core, the story and the screenplay was very well presented. Mardaani was exceptionally hard hitting story and hence, this Rani Mukerji film directed by Pradeep Sarkar deserves a place in our list of nominations for film with best story 2014.

There are only a rare talent who can bring out the Shakespearian perspective so well and Vishal Bhardwaj is one of those rare. The story of this dark drama was the pillar of success followed by phenomenal performance by Shahid Kapoor and all the other actors, who played their part at par. PK too was loved because it had a story to tell the audience, a story of an alien who comes to Earth on a research mission, befriends a television journalist and questions religious dogmas and superstitions. PK had a long run of four weeks and went on making and breaking box office records.

A mean, dark and unsettling film that garnered praises at various international film festivals and of course received positive reviews in its home country.
