The last time a relatively small but qualitative Hindi film clashed with a Hollywood big ticket film this year, the latter won hands down. Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! despite good reviews, managed to earn 26 crores nett and Fast and Furious 7 raked in nearly 110 crores in India.
Looks like Madhur Bhandarkar’s forthcoming Calendar Girls will face a similar disadvantage. It hits theaters across India with Mission Impossible 5 Rogue Nation on 7th August, 2015.
The Hollywood franchise has serious clout with multiplex audiences. In the past the MI films have made good business in India. Dubbed versions do well too.
Calendar Girls holds promise of a tell all story of modelling but does not feature stars. Given this year’s growing Hollywood footprint, this Indie feature might risk an average opening.
