A New York museum is celebrating Indian contemporary cinema and has chosen to showcase three Indian films. Amongst the three, one is Court which is India’s official entry for the 88th Oscar Awards in the Best Foreign Film category this year. Also being show cased are Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet and Tamil film Kaaka Muttai.
The series is being named as ‘India’s New Wave’ and showcases the works of directors who have brought modern cinema in light. Last year, the museum had celebrated the works of director Mani Ratnam, actor Om Puri, composer and musician Rahman, and actress and filmmaker Nandita Das.
Since film festivals like Cannes, Venice and Toronto have given popularity to several talented directors, the New York museum wishes to portray the art and culture of India by showcasing their work.
