Ek Villain still hasn’t wrapped up its moolah raking spree at the box office. And with Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania hitting the screens this Friday, it is perturbing question whether the latter will be able to succeed with former? Surely, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania will take a great opening, but for the film’s lead man Varun Dhawan the perspective comes from an entirely different page.
In an interview with Koimoi, Dhawan told us, “Box office is genuinely just a number. It’s not that it doesn’t boggle your mind, it obviously does affect mildly but what is primary is that the film should make ample profit. When you have spent more on a film and just recovering costs, the earn is still less. To be very honest, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, isn’t a very expensive film exactly. This film came to me and Alia right after Student Of The Year when me and Alia hadn’t got anything. This will easily be one of the cheapest films this year, in that sense.”
He adds, “Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania doesn’t need to do some astronomical number to be successful. If it does a decent number also, it will end up earning more than other films. And I am speaking strictly from a business perspective and the ROI value. If a film is made on 100 crores and it makes a 100 crore, it is pointless. The important factor always is the Return on Investment. What matters is how many people have seen a film and that is where a 100 crore is significant. We are expecting that we will get that much love from the audiences.”
Alia agrees with Varun and concedes that in the industry, box office is instrumental in sweeping people off their feet. She said, “Big box office number to me is nothing more than how many more people have seen my film and can now recognize my face. This industry is so unimaginable. No one would have expected an Ek Villain to take such a huge opening. I am more than happy for Sid and my brother Mohit but a 15 crore opening is a big achievement. We want to shock and surprise constantly. I managed to do that once this year and want to repeat it again.”
The film is an out and out romantic comedy and will star Varun and Alia in lead roles. It is gearing up for an 11th July release.
