The trailer of Finding Fanny is pretty watchable but somehow throws you yet again into the world of Being Cyrus. Homi Adjania who made a memorable debut with the 85 minute interesting film has come a long way ever since, but his style of narrating has remained starkly same. The trailer invites you into a familiar premise that somehow seem right out of Being Cyrus. Stylish cut and engagingly told, this film too seemed plagued with the pertinent problem with Homi’s films – a weak plotline.
It is clear that Homi is someone who believes firmly in telling simple stories tastefully and probably. Finding Fanny would further my impression of the same. His sense of characterization is impeccable though. Deepika Padukone announces about love only to add that she is a virgin a minute later. The film’s journey will obviously be an enjoyable ride especially that this time it is a road trip that flaunts some brilliant cinematography. Picturesque locations, set in Goa the right ambiance is painted at the onset.
Actors like Padukone, Arjun Kapoor gel smoothly with seniors like Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur and Dimple Kapadia. Even years later, well in her late 50s, Dimple still looks so darn hot. Pankaj in the lovable lech avatar is perfect – with the flawless diction, measuring up a woman and doing a good job at it. In one scene where Naseeruddin Shah breaks down thinking about the love of his life, a boisterous Deepika shuts him up by stuffing a rag in his mouth and spraying beer over him.
I like the way Adjania uses wit in his films. I don’t doubt that Finding Fanny too will have him his creative bent to the best and will be brimming with energy. This character driven plot might just turn out to be delectable with natural actors adding layers to the story which seems to be a nuanced one.
