I haven’t exactly been a fan of Korean film but the full length trailer of Ek Villain does remind me of I Saw The Devil. Mohit Suri borrows the milieu of his Murder 2 and builds something far more delicious than the earlier film. Using well, the perfectly cast leads Sidharth Malhotra and Shraddha Kapoor, in the first part of the trailer it is their turbulent chemistry that works. Shraddha Kapoor seems to be back to uninhibited space and fits superbly in her vivacious character. As her fragility and innocence melts down a brute like Sidharth, their love story hits a rough patch as a menacing villain occupies the center-stage of their life.
Some films aren’t about the novelty of their scripts but more about their slick execution. Ek Villain stays true to the title and is all about its villain. Riteish Deshmukh is sexy in the trailer and that’s a word you don’t usually associate with the actor. Riteish’s comic timing is a hit with all but when the actor gets into the sly skin of a psychotic killer here, he is nothing short of top notch. In a particular snippet from the trailer where the killer after slaughtering his victim says with frosty coldness “tum sab ki jaan ke saath meri har chinta, saari stress bhi nikal jaati hai.” He is brutally creepy and the coldness in his eyes is what leaves by the feeling that the actor is the right justice to his character.
Obviously, it wasn’t the best decision to reveal the film’s main plot so openly, I am expecting some twist in the tale that only the film has in hold for us. For now, we certainly know who is the film’s villain and what conjures up the crisis drama in the film.
Rustic looking Sidharth battling it out with the brooding Riteish promises a scrumptious film and if Mohit Suri even achieves half of what the inspired trailer assures you, we are gearing up for a piquant people.
