When it comes to murder mysteries, it is very important to build intrigue around the plot and especially the trailer holds utmost importance. The trailer of Drishyam scores full marks on that as it holds your attention well as it paces up from a simple start. Starring Ajay Devgn in the lead, the trailer starts off with an insight into the mundane life of Vijay Salgaonkar who is a fourth standard fail man, who is now married and has two daughters. A man who has built his livelihood by working as a cable operator, he seems content in his life until a suspicious murder leads to his family and in no time they fall prey as suspects for the death of the son of Inspector Meera Deshmukh played by Tabu.
Drishyam is a remake of the Malayalam film by the same name. While there are many remakes that have worked well and others that have bombed, what makes Drishyam stand out is its notable cast. Also, director Nishikant Kamat who had directed Force in Bollywood and Marathi film Lai Bhaari recently has had a good track record so far. The director seems to have managed to maintain a good amount of suspense in the trailer and this film could very well make way for a new genre of family thrillers. Murder mysteries in Bollywood have not been cutting edge but Kamat’s Drishyam looks delicious with its dialogues and performances.
Ajay Devgn, who was last seen in Action Jackson, really disappointed us and it looks like Drishyam will help him bounce back. He is looking extremely convincing as the middle-class man who is either being framed for a crime that he has not done or he is a conniving man whose motives we will learn in the film.
All in all, Drishyam which releases this July is intriguing enough to drives us to theaters to watch the film for its mystery and performances.
