Ever since the makers announced the movie, it is being promoted as a film based on a ‘Father-Daughter’ relationship. In conversation with Koimoi, Deepika Padukone talks in detail about the other characteristic of Piku saying, “There is a lot of chaos in her mind; it’s just not the physical chaos that you see. Piku is like a lot of us today, multi-tasking, which I think women do brilliantly. Balancing work, family, friends, trying to take time for yourself, doing multiple things at the same time. So, Piku as a character, in that sense I found it very interesting and exciting because there is a lot of chaos. And you can see that, you can feel it.”
“But at the same time there is a routine, she goes to work, she comes back, she has to take care of her baba, she has to cook, she has to take care of the house, she needs to go for grocery shopping, she has to be there for her friends, she gets very little time for herself, but she is set in that. But a lot of her frustration comes from the fact that her life is actually pretty mundane in that sense because there is nothing exciting happening in her life. It’s the same thing every day, discussing the same things, and that’s where the frustration comes from.”
Talking about the characterization, director Shoojit Sircar adds, “There is a chaos in her mind but in her actions there is no chaos, in her action she is absolutely meticulous rather, she will know exactly what to do.”
Deepika further reveals how her and Irrfan’s journey of discovering one another while shooting helped the film. As this was the first time both the actors met she expresses the experience saying, “We have never met even socially, personally also I met him for the first time on the set and we were shooting a very big scene that day. Somewhere I feel it worked for the film, because that’s also their discovery and their journey through the film. And fortunately for us, Shoojit shot the film linear and so our own discovery of each other in our personal life on set and otherwise has somewhere I feel has added to the film in a strange way.”
Directed by Shoojit Sircar, Deepika plays the titular protagonist ‘Piku‘. The film also stars Amitabh Bachchan as Piku‘s father and Irrfan Khan will be seen in a pivotal role. The movie is set to hit the screens tomorrow.
