There had been a lot of speculation about Deepika Padukone being considered for Shuddhi. However a popular daily has reported that the actress has been signed to play the lead in this period drama to be directed by Karan Malhotra, though the makers haven’t confirmed the news yet.
The original choice for the film were Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor. But due to constant delays because of Hrithik’s health issues, the actor parted ways with the project and soon Kareena too opted out of this film.
Deepika currently has her hands full with Farah Khan’s Happy New Year, Finding Fanny and Shoojit Sircar’s Piku. It seems after finishing these projects, the actress will start shooting for Shuddhi.
The makers have not officially confirmed the news. Neither the male lead has been confirmed, although it will be interesting to see if Deepika’s current beau Ranveer Singh bags this project.
