Parineeti Chopra’s Shuddh Desi Romance trailer got me woozy with joy. The film even more. This year’s Hasee Toh Phasee wasn’t spectacular but Chopra’s palpable rendering to the character of Meera was enough to take everyone’s eyes off Sidharth Malhotra who donned his best chocolate boy face and demeanor throughout the film. However, Daawat-E-Ishq‘s trailer is deficient in the enthralling factor that comes as a package with Parineeti Chopra.
For starters, even Habib Faisal’s name was incapable of wooing me into the dull trailer. And it is saying a lot if a glutton like me couldn’t be lured well into the fabric of a film that revolves around gastronomic bliss. Kicking off with a sprinkling of dowry talk in the beginning, the rest of trailer doesn’t quite define the film’s beginning.
Parineeti Chopra’s Hyderabadi accent is done with a Punjabi twang, which is disastrous enough. In her song sequences, she almost looks woody and uncomfortable. It was hard to miss the bright golden shade of earrings and the unusually dark lipstick she is wearing, which probably was instrumental in making her look so much in discomfort(probably for very real and pertinent reasons). Her chemistry with Aditya Roy Kapur at no point seems real, impactful or efficient. Kapur for the entire run time of the trailer is either cradling with a cauliflower fashioned as a bouquet or indulges in seekh-fight with Parineeti ala Jodhaa Akbar style. The bewitching spark is lamentably missing from it all.
My ears had perked up at the word ‘Daawat’ but there is no exquisite platter or gourmet laid out here atleast from the first look. Habib Faisal is keeping alive the hope in me but the first impression is that of diet food: no grease, no spice, no use!
