A few drops in her escalating career is not enough to harm this lady. Ekta Kapoor is a trendsetter. Not only is she the most defining thing that happened to Indian television, her style of films are inherently propitious. Luckily for us, she is never jittery about taking risks with projects that might have limited market or might not translate into monetary success. Probably a few of her last films have not matched the success levels of The Dirty Picture, but a producer the woman has ventured into a more promising arena or art and in real terms more skillful cinema.

We had earlier followed her box office trail of hits and lows as a producer (Read: Box Office Check: Ekta Kapoor The Producer) and now with Ragini MMS 2 gearing up for release we take a look at her last few films and how they have fared in the domestic market.

After the hit film Shootout At Wadala, Ekta’s experimental collaboration with Anurag Kashyap’s Phantom wasn’t a domestic hit atleast. Vikramaditya Motwane’s Lootera though hailed as a marvel by the critics’ fraternity unanimously, the film at the box office failed to rise above an average runner. Being a niche film mostly, it managed to earn only 30.50 crores at the domestic box office.

What hit her bad was the failure of her much hyped Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara. A magnum opus from her banner which seemed to have all the right ingredients to take on Shah Rukh Khan starrer Chennai Express, the film fared worse than the lowest of the audience’s expectations. Making a meager 65 crores, the film couldn’t even mark off as average at the domestic box office.

As deterring as it could have been, it had little impact on the magnanimous lady’s illustrious career. More recently she partnered with Pritish Nandy Communications on the sequel film Shaadi Ke Side Effects which starred Farhan Akhtar and Vidya Balan in lead roles. With mostly positive reviews, the film’s box office collections has so far accumulated a recorded income of 34.40 crores at the domestic box office.

Ragini MMS 2 will see the light of the day this week and then Ekta has a massive line of films in order for 2014. The foremost in order is the return of David Dhawan with Main Tera Hero starring Varun Dhawan. She also has in the loop Kuku Mathur Ki Jhand Ho Gayi, Milan Talkies and Mohit Suri’s The Villain with Sidharth Malhotra and Shraddha Kapoor.

We hope Ekta Kapoor tastes some saccharine success with Ragini MMS 2, because good films always give a high!
