Amit Sahni Ki List releases this Friday and the film has caught attention, courtesy Vir Das’ feisty presence in the promos which have been eye catchy indeed. While one waits to see the actor finally get his due as an actor with the film which is set in a comic space, first time producers Tina Nagpaul, Kavita Kulkarni and Sujata Vemuri are confident of giving something really interesting for the target audience to feast on.
“Our director (Ajay Bhuyan) has followed this narrative style in the film where Vir is talking directly to the camera, something which we see in Hollywood films as well. See, today we are amidst MTV generation and stars are no longer larger than life. They have to be talking to you one on one; that’s something we have adapted for Amit Sahni Ki List,” says Tina.
The idea though was not to alienate Indian audience in an endeavor to follow Western mode of storytelling. “At the end of it all, the emotions here are very Indian,” says Sujata, who is based out of New York, “We have made a smart film here which is high on concept and made on a tight budget. We want a film that works for the audience and is also successful commercially. I strongly believe we have managed that process well and got the content right; it should help create niche for the film.”
For Kavita, who just like Tina and Sujata was an investment banker too before stepping into films, feels that Amit Sahni Ki List strikes a fair balance between being a classy and a massy affair.
“We wanted to tell a sweet little movie that audience can relate to. The script could have gone either way but we have kept the proceedings fair. We come from the world of corporate banking ourselves and Vir is carrying a lot of those shades as a part of his characterization. Ultimately, it has turned out to be a good looking film that is a smile-through affair,” promises Kavita.
We would look forward to that too once the film releases on 18th July.
