Khiladi Kumar has always remained one of the most enigmatic stars in the Industry. But the actor’s rise to blazing popularity happened when he delivered back-2-back 100 Crore movies with Housefull 2 and Rowdy Rathore in 2012. However, lady luck hasn’t been as benevolent on him ever since. The actor in the last year has missed three opportunities to recreate the same magic and with his latest flick OUATIMD stepping on the wrong stone again, there is a solid chance that he will miss being the 100 crore entrant yet again.
Undeniably the man knows his work thoroughly. Starring in the low budget film Oh My God that made an approx business of 82 crores and cast Paresh Rawal as the main protagonist, he isn’t shy of taking up bold roles. But what followed the ‘Super-Hit’ flick was Khiladi 786 which was a dull film and a plus fare at the Box Office what with the film earning around 70 crores at the Box Office.
The star began the year with an intelligent film, that kept the audiences on their toes all through. Akshay’s performance in Neeraj Pandey’s Special 26 was jaw dropping as he played the straight paced mastermind with a flawless ability to give you the thrills. At the box office too, the film managed to fare above average with a lifetime income of 70 crores, shortly missing the 100 crore mark again!
Receiving rave reviews from critics for his first stint this year, his recently released OUATIMD saw him as a misfit. There are mixed reviews on Akshay’s depiction of Shoaib. While most concede that he wore out the intensity that Emraan Hashmi had rendered to the role, on the contrary there were scenes in the film where he flourished his panache. He might have stepped on the wrong stone with OUATIMD, but there are rare scenes where you can’t help but be smitten by his acting.
Box office wise, OUATIMD is gravely outnumbered by the Eid release Chennai Express which shadowed the film all along. While the latter has crossed the 200 crore red letter mark at the domestic box office, OUATIMD stands at little below 60 crores! Showing little promise of crossing the 100 crore mark, Khiladi Kumar misses the coveted club yet again with OUATIMD whose buzz said the contrary!
However, don’t be surprised if he manages to have you floored with Boss this year. The film, all set to release mid October, will have Akshay Kumar revisiting his Rowdy Rathore character closely. Doing the gravity defying stunts has been his forte always and Boss from its first look seems to transport you into the genre of Khiladi, which he personifies!
Getting every stunt right, and flamboyantly flaunting his daredevil ways, that is an arena in which Akshay never goes wrong. There is no reason for the Khiladi’s fans to be disappointed with OUATIMD which was nothing short of a fiasco for me. Because no matter what Boss shall always be the Boss!
