When it comes to dance films, Hollywood has so far had a upper hand with the likes of Dirty Dancing, Step Up series, Shall We Dance and so on. Bollywood choreographer Remo D’Souza gave India its first 3D dance film. Since the film was well received, the makers have now come up with a sequel and this time other than exceptional dances, the film also promises full on entertainment as the director ropes in mainstream actors Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead roles. Of course, reprising his old role will be Prabhu Dheva.
The trailer first and foremost captures your attention with the killer dance moves and while we are familiar with Varun’s superb performance skills, it’s Shraddha Kapoor who comes as a surprise. The petite las impresses us in the trailer itself and well, we can expect her to wash off her usual simpleton girl image with this film. Other than bringing some stunning performances to the fore which may not get a place in the trailer and we will have to wait for the film for it, Remo makes sure that his film is a complete commercial film and hence the ‘Maa Ka Sapna Poora Karnewala’ angle to the lead character of Suresh to be played by Varun.
The story being a real life inspiration, finds itself based in Mumbai and Las Vegas. According to the plot, Varun and Shraddha’s dance crew participate in a dance competition in Vegas and their troupe will be headed by Prabhu Dheva. Content wise, there is little that is exceptional or unbelievable in the story but what matters is the execution. A lot of elements in the trailer are reminiscent of its prequel, including two songs.
I would say ABCD 2 will be a enjoyable film for those who don’t mind the story taking a backseat for a better visual depiction. Dance is the key element in this one and as Varun Dhawan says it, “We dance to express, not impress”. So as long as Remo serves us his best dancers clubbed with a spicy combination of Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor, we are hoping for a entertaining dance film.
