When in mainstream commercial films bikini scenes are barely a deal, South star Tamannaah Bhatia who had earlier debuted with Ajay Devgn in Sajid Khan’s Himmatwala, did not put her foot down when it came to this. The actress was seen wearing shorts in a song where Esha Gupta and Bipasha Basu hiked the oomph factor. When Koimoi caught up with the actress and asked her about it, she very confidently retorted by saying, “I have always maintained that I will not wear a bikini or indulge in on screen kissing. This is something that I have always maintained, and I intent to keep that. I am not comfortable with it at all.”

However, when we asked Esha Gupta of the same, she very casually said, “My concept is if you are on a holiday near a beach, what else will you wear. I have done holidays with my father, atleast that is the kind of family I come from. If you are speaking English and wear jeans, it is assumed you belong to Western culture. If you are on a beach or on a pool, you will either wear a swimsuit, a costume or a bikini. Those days are gone where you are wearing a saree and dancing on the beach. You’ll end up wearing a bikini and that I was cool with. I don’t really care. I think what else will you wear. If I have worn a bikini in front of my father and he has seen me in it, a thousand other people have seen me in it on the beach.”

Esha, however, added a line almost out of caution (it seemed), “Obviously it is necessary to be comfortable in it and you should be looking good.”

Well, though bikini isn’t a great deal here but Tamannaah begs to differ on that. It is good to see an actress holding her ground firmly in an industry that perpetuates stereotypical and whimsical notions of popular culture as well as fashion. Humshakals directed by Sajid Khan stars Saif Ali Khan, Riteish Deshmukh along with Ram Kapoor in lead roles with Tamannaah Bhatia, Esha Gupta and Bipasha Basu donning the female lead space.
