Saif and Kareena were supposed to arrive by 8 pm at a five-star hotel in Juhu on Monday (18^th October) to attend a press conference for a shoe brand they endorse. While the media waited for the actors for more than two hours, there was no sign of the starry couple. Finally, fed up of the wait, the media staged a walkout at 10pm without bothering about the whereabouts of the couple.

Later, Saif apologized for the delay blaming the traffic that they were stuck in as it was ‘Visarjan’ day. If the roads were that badly blocked, how did the media teams manage to make it on time? And it takes about 30 minutes to reach Juhu from the couple’s place at Bandra.

Riddhi Walia, media relation manager of the event, had a very interesting tidbit to add to the no-show. According to her, one particular photographer instigated the entire media to leave because he had some personal vendetta against the Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor. And since when did the entire media become as gullible as 2 year olds?

This should be a good lesson for all the “fashionably late” brats of Bollywood.

Tired of shattering records and scaling new heights, Rajnikant took a break from his filmy life for a relaxing and spiritual trip to the Himalayas.

But don’t take the Rakht Charitra director too seriously, because neither does he. “I am a non-sensical filmmaker,” he says when asked whether ‘Rakht Charitra’ aims at addressing any of the social or political issues faced by the country, “The issues facing the country are not my cup of tea. I’m interested in powerful men and sexy women. I have no idea of politics and have never voted in my life.”

Ramu is probably the first Hindi filmmaker who has announced that his film would have a sequel even before the release of the first part. But that doesn’t deter the filmmaker, “The span of the film is too large to justify it in one part. There’s a man, and the man who killed him. I wanted to tell both their stories. The issues it (the film) raises in the first part it settles in the first part itself.” Ramu’s ‘Rakht Charitra’ is about Paritala Ravi, the political leader from Andhra Pradesh. The film traces the rise and growth of Ravi, played by Vivek Oberoi, and the assassination attempts surrounding him.

The director has done his research for the film. He talks about gangs tracking down and killing a 74 year-old man only for the sake of revenge. “They said that they wanted to kill him before he died of natural causes! I don’t understand how they sustain the anger.” he says. “The scary part is that they’ll be holding guns and wearing Hawaii chappals!” he says with a nervous laugh, “They’re scary because of their unpredictability.” Then, as if in afterthought he jokes, “After meeting all of them, if ‘Rakht Charitra’ flops I’ll join their gang. If it becomes a hit I’ll become their front man, if it’s a flop I’ll join the gang. I already know so much about them!”

Guess he can put that on hold till the release of ‘Rakht Charitra, on 22^nd October 2010; he can switch the camera for a gun later.

The couple claimed that Aamir Khan was trying to steal all the credit and fame. Co-director and casting director Mahmood Farooqui said, “Those who wanted the money, fame and credits wanted it more than us, so we left it to them and returned to Delhi,” and added that the husband-wife team had “removed ourselves” from it. Director Rizvi said she was unhappy with the presentation of the titles and acknowledgements.

Rumours about dissent within the team had leaked out after the making of ‘Peepli Live’ with issues about Aamir’s creative interference and the final edit, where Aamir had supposedly dominated. Though the team tried to put on a brave face during the India release, things looked troubled when Rizvi was ignored at the UK release of ‘Peepli Live’.

Aamir Khan’s meddling ways, or “creative inputs”, are not making headlines for the first time. Taare Zameen Par was initially director Amol Gupte’s project. Later, Aamir took over the reins from Amol since he was dissatisfied with Amol’s direction and went on to complete the movie on his own. ‘Taare Zameen Par’ ended up with Amol Gupte getting credit as creative director.

Ironically, fame, media, the limelight and the problems in its wake are the issues that ‘Peepli Live’ deals with.

RGV is unpretentious about his films and the characters he chooses, “I don’t like simple people. Normal people and normal relationships bore me. I like to make films where people are a bit extreme.”

Running his hand through his hair, he adds, “I would like to see a Dawood Ibrahim’s rise compared to some great business man’s rise in construction. His life would be dramatic because he’s doing something against convention. You might look down upon him…but you’ll still like to hear his story.” He explains further how Paritala Ravi went on to join politics, “He was in the jungles when N. T. Rama Rao gave him an offer to join the party to fight against a certain community. Suppose Indira Gandhi brought Bhindranwale or the US supported Osama in the war against Russia…which brings us back to the politics-violence nexus…”

‘Rakht Charitra’, starring Vivek Oberoi, Shatrughan Sinha and Suriya will hit theatres on 22^nd October, 2010.

Emma Stone has been in movies like Zombieland and Superbad, and will be seen in the comedy flick Easy A. She also has Crazy, Stupid, Love opposite Steve Carell and The Help opposite Ryan Gosling in the pipeline.

Commenting on the announcement, Matt Tolmach, President of Columbia Pictures, said, “It’s been an incredible journey for us to watch Emma’s star rise as an actress.  She is extraordinarily talented and has a very special on-screen spark that is perfect for this role. Given her history with the studio, casting her in one of our most important franchises is a real thrill.” Webb added, “The chemistry between Andrew and Emma was stunning and made Emma the clear choice.  At the heart of the story of Peter Parker is not only the amazing Spider-Man, but also an ordinary teenager who is wondering what he has to do to get the girl.  Andrew and Emma will bring everything audiences expect to these roles, but also make them their own. Much to my surprise, it was fun to find out that our choice for Gwen (Emma) is also a natural blonde.”

Shah Rukh Khan was all set with a camera and some pep talk, to encourage his kids at the 6th National Taekwondo Competition 2010 Juniors and Sub-Juniors. His children, Aryan (13) and Suhana (10) won gold medals. Shah Rukh later tweeted, “Son and daughter won gold in taekwondo nationals. Suhana was like a newcomer (aggressive)…Aryan fought like a thespian (technical).”

Producer Aditya Chopra’s ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’ is a musical rom-com set in the upper middle class families in North India where Imran falls in love with his brother’s fiancé! Director Ali Abbas Zafar, who has been with Yash Raj on films like Badmaash Company, New York, Tashan and Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, continues his upward journey with Yash Raj films with this new venture.

Katrina and Ranbir seem to be bonding over some cutting chai and jalebis with some unending lawns in the background (so typical of Yash Raj). We’re bored of seeing Kat looking so frail and …well, undernourished. Someone please give this girl a role with some flesh on her bones! And this is just like another Yash Raj film, Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai, rehashed.

Pssst! We heard that Katrina Kaif visited a tattoo artiste to choose tattoo designs which will be temporarily inked on her for her ‘rebel’ role in a Yash Raj film. Last time we saw her in tattoos and piercings was in Blue. Better luck this time!

Recently, the actor read about Professor Sandeep Desai, a teacher who was collecting funds to set up a school in rural Maharashtra. Salman not only contributed to his fund, he also put up a message on his Twitter account asking people to come forward and lend a helping hand to the cause, “Prof Sandeep Desai ka jawab nahi. Kamaal karte ho yaar Prof saheb. Wanna make a chota mota difference, kya bolte ho? This Professor Sandeep Desai is collecting money in trains for a school, wana help him?” Salman then tweeted the bank account number of the school so that his fans could donate directly. After a while Salman promised, “I shall make sure that I will and thank you guys.”

This isn’t the first time Salman has taken up a cause. The actor agreed to auction gym sessions with him for the charity Joy of Giving Week. The auction on ebay India registered the highest bid of around 3.5 lakhs.

Salman was also instrumental in conducting an eye camp in Sri Lanka during the IIFA Awards this year. The beefy actor’s ‘Being Human Foundation’ flew down five eye surgeons with eye lenses, after care medication and even the technical equipment required for the operations from India. Salman Khan distributed 200 bicycles in Wai, conducted cataract operations in Wai and even provided for the surgery of cancer patients.

But the Dabangg star is nonchalant about his charitable acts and prefers not to talk too much about it. He says, “I help as much as I can…I’m not doing anything wonderful. There are lots of charitable trusts that do this sort of work but since I’m a face to the cause, it becomes famous & gets media coverage.”

It takes a great deal of heart to even that much. Hats off to the silent philanthropist!

Afraid that he was “slowly becoming a fiction of others imagination”, Shah Rukh vented that “incompetence is a genetic disorder”, probably referring to the recent reports about him signing up for the next Yash Raj film. Interestingly, the actor has in the past taken recourse to Twitter to falsify reports in the media. However, he accepted that celebs are public property, but added, “Isn’t that sad, when you see the state of public properties in India.”

Last heard, Shah Rukh Khan was shooting for Ra.One in Mumbai with Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal. The shooting of the visual effects heavy film, shot in Goa, Mumbai and London, is expected to wrap up soon, after which the film will enter the crucial post production stage.

Though all the actors had come in character to the mahurat, we found Big B’s look in the Firoz Nadiadwala film the most interesting. Since we’re used to seeing the senior Bachchan clean shaven or his swanky French beard, it was quite a surprise to see him in that brooding look with grey stubble and swanky shades. Adding more to his mysterious character was the velvet jacket and a black-and-white muffler. Hmm…reminds us of his Kaante look…

Amitabh was apprehensive about the film too. He wrote on his blog, “Starting a film after a gap of almost 2 years can be a disturbing factor. The offers were there, the makers were there as were the stories. The intent was there as was the desire, but just somehow the time I guess was not there.”

We loved the look of the poster with a silhouette of Akshay Kumar with a handcuff hanging on his wrist.  Farah Khan’s ‘Tees Maar Khan’ starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif and is produced by Akshay and Shirish Kunder.  The movie has been more in the news thanks to Kat’s item numbers in the film ‘Sheela Ki Jawani’ (Katrina’s Belly Dance) and ‘Jumma Chumma De De’ (Kat Shoots From The Hip!).

‘Tees Maar Khan’ is scheduled to release on 24^th December, 2010.

Santoshi’s last film Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, starring Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor, was not a typical Santoshi film. But this certainly isn’t Santoshi’s first time with this varied a star cast. He has earlier directed Amitabh Bachchan in Family: Ties of Blood, Anil Kapoor in Pukar; and Ajay Devgan in Halla Bol and The Legend of Bhagat Singh.

Santoshi’s ‘Power’, produced by Firoz A. Nadidadwala, is being touted as an out-and-out action film with the crew of Hollywood blockbuster 2012 being called in to work on the visual effects sequences of the film.

Mr. Bachchan, Sanjay, Ajay, Anil and the director were all present at the mahurat of Power at J.W. Marriot in Mumbai, on September 22^nd. producer Firoz A, Nadiadwala have roped in superstars for their forthcoming film, Power. The stars attended the mahurat, where they shot the first shot of the movie. Surprisingly, the stars were all dressed up as the characters of the film, with Mr. Bachchan, Ajay and Sanjay deliberating the murder of ‘Balraj’ (Anil Kapoor), obviously the villain of the film.

Though Raj Kumar Santoshi refused to reveal the story or the characters in detail, he agreed that it was probably his biggest multi-starrer till date. The stars were no less excited about the film’s mahurat. Sanjay Dutt tweeted about his film, “Mahurat of my new film ‘Power’ today. Directed by Rajji (Rajkumar Santoshi). Looking forward for the shoot to begin.” Ameesha Patel, who will be playing a role opposite Sanjay Dutt in the film, had been excitedly tweeting about the film since morning, “Getting ready to leave for the mahurat of my new film ‘Power’…All the actors will be there for the mahurat shot. Mr. Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgan, Sanjay Dutt, Anil Kapoor…Can only imagine the energy in the room with so many superfine actors.” Interestingly, at the mahurat, we found Ameesha Patel posing for the shutterbugs in the hotel lobby, while the male actors and director Rajkumar addressed the media.

If you think, these handful of stars are already too much to handle, then wait till you hear this. There’s one more lead actor (male) to be finalised and the word is that Kangna Ranaut too might be roped in to play the female lead. Television actress Lekha Washington is also a part of the movie.

But it looks like Salman couldn’t keep away from his fans for long. After a gap of more than a week, the hunk tweeted late last night (21^st September, 2010), “Kamaal karte ho yaar! Thank you for wanting me to come back and sorry to leave but do understand that I tweet anything and my friends and family panic.” True, immediately after Salman’s comments hit the headlines, his father, Salim Khan apologized on his behalf.

Following this the star began putting up photos of his fingers and hand, wondering if any astrologer on Twitter would “read” his hand. Hmm, considering that Salman Khan’s ‘Dabangg’ has been breaking records since its release, Sallu can keep that palm-reading for some other time…

After the release of ‘Dabangg’, Salman had been to Norway for a film festival with the cast of the film, following which the star began shooting for his show ‘Bigg Boss’.

We all know the filmography of the youngest daughter of actors Randhir Kapoor and Babita: from her debut Refugee, her candyfloss, ‘inspired’ roles in films like Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Mujhse Dosti Karoge, Jab We Met & Kambhakkht Ishq and her critically acclaimed ones in Chameli, Yuva, Omkara and, most recently, 3 Idiots. Bebo has Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal 3 and Shah Rukh Khan’s RA.ONE to look forward to.

The movie may have been an out-and-out no-brainer, but Kareena’s ensemble was the talk of town. Her snazzy dresses, her size-zero figure, her shoes, her purses…

With a figure like that, Kareena looks absolutely gorgeous in figure-hugging dresses like this blue one-shouldered dress.

This dress was a bit of a bummer on Bebo, maybe it’s the colours, maybe it’s the fabric…absolute thumbs down.
