Race 2 is one of the most anticipated movies for this year. Abbas-Mustan have given number of thrillers to audience and Race 2 adds to the list. As expected, music is an integral part of their glamorous and stylish offerings. This one is no different as Pritam has remained constant as a music director. He was successful in selling the concept called ‘Race’ through his music last time. This time around too Pritam and lyricist Mayur Puri have created another racy and melodious album. There are four original tracks in the album and the rest are remixes.

Be Intehan – Race 2 Music Review

Atif Aslam as a name itself brings romantic emotions and a silky voice in the listener’s mind. He established himself with ‘Race’ and the sequel takes him further down in that direction. Album opens with his voice in Be Intehan. It’s a track which one can easily replace with his last hit, sung in the same manner and the only advantage is another charmer Sunidhi Chauhan who is added to the romantic duet. Pritam scores again and one can well expect the song to be played in repeat mode.

Rahul Vaidya, Indian Idol runner up, adds an ‘unplugged version’ of this song in the album. This is the version which touches the listener’s heart and will stay with you. Mayur Puri’s lyrics carry the overall context of the song beautifully and Rahul’s melodious voice does the rest. Later in the album arrives the ‘remix’ version which doesn’t really cut ice as one would rather stick to the original.

Lat Lag Gayee – Race 2 Music Review

Album moves forward with Lat Lag Gayee which is rendered by Benny Dayal and Shalmali Kholgade, both of whom are riding on a success wave after their many consecutive hits. With a Western base to it, this one reminds of quite a few other club numbers by Pritam. In fact this one seems repetitive and a listener would not find anything new in this.

Party On My Mind – Race 2 Music Review

Next Track Party On My Mind was the first song released from the movie. As the name suggests, it’s a party track and makers released the track well in advance at the New Year time. Since then, it has been climbing the charts. K K and Shefali Alvares along with Yo Yo Honey Singh grace the song with their voices. Pritam has become a master in composing such songs and he scores another one with this. Composition is hip-hop with electronic sounds in the background which make it foot tapping. The song is also special since Shalmali has added a lot of attitude to the song by delivering it in style.

Allah Duhai Hai (Phir Bewafai Hai) – Race 2 Music Review

Allah Duhai Hai (Phir Bewafai Hai) which made its debut in Race re-emerges in a new avatar and this time it is sung by a host of singers from Atif Aslam, Vishal Dadlani and Anushka Manchanda to Ritu Pathak and Michie. One look at the song will make one understand the need for so many singers. This song can be treated as a replacement of Race Saanson Ki as it fulfils all the standard requirements from this genre. All the protagonists come together in this track which boasts of an excellent choreography. It carries forward the theme of the movie and aptly fits into the thriller mode.

Race Mash Up – Race 2 Music Review

Other than this there is also a remixed version of the same track, just like it is for others as well, hence adding further zing to the soundtrack. Last but not the least is the Race Mash Up, which is a collage of all the songs and makes for a good experimentation.

The Last Word – Race 2 Music Review

Race 2 is a thriller and this is one genre that Abbas-Mastan can always be expected to deliver goods. Moreover, audience expectations are always high from them in terms of script as well as music. Right from their Baazigar days, it is the story factor that has been quite powerful while music too has been varied to suit all situations. In Race 2 though, it appears as if it was style quotient that was given more prominence. Though the songs would be played and a listener will have ‘Party on their mind’, it would be back to square one once the party ends and normal life takes over

‘Ye Hai Zila Ghaziabad’  is a high energy and playful song. Sung by Sukhvinder Singh, the song is composed by Amjad Nadeem.

Zila Ghaziabad is a biopic, based on the notorious gangster Mahender Fauji’s life. The movie is scheduled to release on 22^nd February, 2013.

Anirudh himself has composed the music for this romantic track which does very well for the listeners. Composition is interesting especially in the end when the instrumental takes over. Though for a few it may seem clichéd, the fact remains that it works as a good inclusion in the album.

The song video sees couples Neil Nitin Mukesh-Monica Dogra and Vikram-Isha Sharvani’s romantic moments.

Bejoy Nambiar’s Shaitan established him as a ‘hat ke’ director and set certain expectations for the audience. He is back with his latest offering David in Tamil and Hindi. He has a exceptional way of doing things and one would accept the same from the music as well. After giving one look to the album, you would be convinced of that. The soundtrack of David consists of 15 tracks composed by eight various artists, including Prashant Pillai and Mikey McCleary, who had worked on Shaitan too, and independent bands Bramfatura, Maatibaani and Modern Mafia. There are 11 different lyricists who have written these tracks with a host of singers.

Ghum Huye – The Theme of David – David Music Review

Ghum Huye – The Theme of David sets the tone of the album. It is a youth oriented movie and the music speaks volumes w.r.t the same. Music is composed by the band Brahmfatura and the voice is rendered by Sidharth Basrur. Song has a haunting feel to it and would work well as a theme depicting lives and story of all three Davids. The band has done a decent job here.

Dama Dam Mast Kalandar – David Music Review

Dama Dam Mast Kalandar has traditionally been an evergreen hit and composer Mikey McLeary gives it a very intriguing twist in the album. Rekha Bhardwaj brings on her rustic voice and makes this one an entertaining number. Mikey does well in giving this one a relaxed modern day feel, hence creating a version which listeners would certainly enjoy.

Dama Dam Mast Kalandar (Rock Version) - David Music Review

The track also has another version titled Dama Dam Mast Kalandar (Rock Version) which has Gaurav Godkhindi joining hands with Mikey. Frankly, if one appreciated the earlier version then this one makes you rethink your decision since the electronic guitar and beats added to traditional version don’t quite work here.

Tore Motware Naina – David Music Review

Album is experimental for sure and the next song Tore Motware Naina is an example of that. This one rendered by Nirali Kartik and Joyshanti begins with a rap followed by some traditional classical outing. Lyrics are a fascinating amalgamation of Arabian feel with rural Hindi lyrics.

Maria Pitache – David Music Review

Next in line is Remo Fernandes’ Maria Pitache. It’s a Goan festivity song which would sound new to quite a few listeners to today who may not be familiar with the legend’s work. He has added on to the folk outing for this theme song that should find a good situation to justify its presence in the album.

Tere Mere Pyar Ki – David Music Review

Prashant Pillai of ‘Nasha’ [Shaitan] fame composes the next song Tere Mere Pyar Ki which is rendered by Naresh Iyer and Shweta Pandit. The track begins with a soothing whistling sound and the same mood continues right through the track. Though the mood is soft while bringing on good relaxation and drawing the listener, there is nothing unique in it due to which it may get lost in the all other experiments in the album.

Bandhay – David Music Review

Bandhay brings focus to rock flavour in the album. Modern Mafia along with Ankur Tiwari deliver a peppy track with lots of drums and guitar. It’s a catchy track which will find takers in youngsters.

Yun Hi Re – David Music Review

Album oscillates between soft music and rock and the next song Yun Hi Re, which is written by Turaz and rendered by Anuirudh and Swetha Mohan falls, in the earlier category. Anirudh himself has composed the music for this romantic track which does very well for the listeners. Composition is interesting especially in the end when the instrumental takes over. Though for a few it may seem clichéd, the fact remains that it works as a good inclusion in the album.

Rab Di – David Music Review

Famous Tamil-Telugu singer Karthik makes his entry through Rab Di in the album. It’s a loud and powerful track which promises to portray a specific situation in the film. Turaz’s lyrics are effective and convey the emotions well. Prashant Pillai music is beat- based and is a great fusion to listen, hence fitting well in the album. There is another version of the same track that arrives later in the album. Experimental in nature and aptly put together by Dub Sharma (who has also been an assistant for composer Sneha Khanwalkar), it is an electronic mix varied rhythms and tones. A must hear for all the budding remix artists.

Out of Control – David Music Review

Since the theme of the film is different, even the music speaks the same language. In this modern setting, a Hinglish ballad in Nikhil D’Souza’s and Preeti Pillai’s voices titled Out of Control does not seem out of place. Honestly, Nikhil has sung it amazingly well and the listener might feel that he is listening to a Hollywood movie soundtrack. The track will definitely appeal to the youth and makes one feel as if Bollywood is coming to terms with the sincerity that is required with the genre. After listening to this, the ‘Choir version’ of the same song delivered by Marianne and Tara Sitaria throws one back though. No doubt, it’s the first version which will remain in the listener’s mind.

Ya Husain – David Music Review

’David’ introduces Lucky Ali in this jamboree of experimentation with Ya Husain finding place in the album. This track would probably remind a listener of many other such tracks, though this one is indeed the heaviest in terms of beats and sounds. Lucky Ali’s vocals do suit the song, especially towards the end. Still, how one wishes that Prashant Pillai would have played harder to bring it into an unforgettable category.

Three Kills – David Music Review

Another English rock track comes next and is titled Three Kills. Upcoming band ‘The Light Years Explode’ has composed this track which is rendered by Saurabh Roy and Aaron Carvalho. It belongs to hard metal genre which has very few takers in Bollywood.

Remo Fernandes returns into the album with ‘Light House Symphony’ in his own characteristic style. It’s an instrumental with a lot of fusion and Remo’s voice do remind one again of his ‘Humma Humma’ [Bombay] days. It’s a fascinating four and half minute piece which would be exciting to watch on screen.

The Last Word – David Music Review

Overall, album is like a roller coaster ride which does steer you in one direction and though there are bumps, it is still worth hopping on to. Since the script revolves around three characters from different locations, right from Goa to Mumbai to London, album covers or touches life from all these places. In that journey, while some tracks work and some don’t, what works most is the fact that the soundtrack cannot be ignored.

Special Chabbis (26) is an upcoming Bollywood heist flick directed by Neeraj Pandey who is well known for his great piece of work in A Wednesday. With Akshay Kumar in lead, the film has lyrics by Irshad Kamil and music by national award winning composer M.M Kreem who has been versatile enough to score music for Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam cinema. Guest composer Himesh Reshammiya and lyricist Shabbir Ahmed chip in with a song as well.

Tujh Sang Lagee – Special Chabbis (26) Music Review

The album kicks off with Tujh Sang Lagee in the soulful vocals of K.K. who is well supported by the composer M.M. Kreem. It is nice to see the other side of K.K which has added up a Sufiana spark to the album. The musical arrangements are typical Indian with a nice harmonium, thus making it a pleasant Qawali outing. Lyrics penned by Irshad Kamil are meaningful which certainly touch deep within the heart.

Kaun Mera – Special Chabbis (26) Music Review

The album moves ahead with Kaun Mera in the mesmerizing vocals of Chaitra Ambadipudi. A pleasant love ballad, it starts with a soft piano and a flute which relax your senses and takes you out of the hustle- bustle of the daily hectic routine. Chaitra’s voice is blended well with Kreem’s musical arrangements that proceed well throughout the track, just like a wave finds its way in an ocean. Lyrics penned by Irshad Kamil are simple yet catchy. One just cannot skip this melodious outing that also has a male rendition by Angaraag Mahanta (Papon) and an unplugged female version by Sunidhi Chauhan. This song is indeed a nice treat to the ears.

Mujh Mein Tu – Special Chabbis (26) Music Review

Next in list is Mujh Mein Tu with Keerthi Sagathia coming behind the mike. The track aptly depicts the mind-frame of the protagonist even as the chorus further compliments the mood. Arrangements used by Kreem go well with the pathos generated in the song and once he brings himself behind the mike for another version, his vocals integrate well the overall flow of the song.

Dhar Pakad – Special Chabbis (26) Music Review

The album ends with a situational outing Dhar Pakad in the enthusiastic vocals of Bappi Lahiri. The track is in synch with the satirical theme that the situation carries. Lasting for a relatively shorter duration, this number has Irshad Kamil coming up comical and effortless lyrics.

The Last Word – Special Chabbis (26) Music Review

Overall, the music of Special Chabbis (26) is situational which may not have much for the DJs but boasts of good ammunition in the form of Kaun Mera and Tujh Sang Lagee that should gain momentum once their videos are out.

Sung by Bappi Lahiri, ‘Dhar Pakad’ is highly energetic track and has got some really interesting and quirky lyrics. It is a situational song and the video kind of introduces the ‘fake’ CBI team’s life, their work and their overall mission.

Table No. 21 is an extension of deep rooted character roles, sans any herogiri, coming from both Paresh Rawal and Rajeev Khandelwal. The movie uses the hit concept of reality shows which is Rajeev’s strong forte as he takes his role forward from ‘Sach Ka Saamna’. Paresh Rawal, an all season actor seems to playing yet another strong role which was Pran’s forte in the 70s. An Eros production, it has music by Gajendra Verma with Sachin Gupta chipping in one track.

O Sajna – Table No. 21 Music Review

A gloomy number, O Sajna, starts with a beautiful English poetic piece. The slow track has been well delivered in the melodious vocals of Puja Thaker and the composer Gajendra Verma himself. Modulation in Puja’s voice aptly depicts the pain and agony of separation from her lover. Lyrics given by Aseem Ahmed Abbasee and Gajendra Verma are deep and intense which well connect with the subject. Gajendra ensures that the track is appealing and interesting by doing well in all departments, be it lyrics, composition or vocals. The track has a ‘remix version’ too which sees a turnaround by playing on high pitch, hence resulting in an original gloomy outing seeing a different spin for itself.

Mann Mera – Table No. 21 Music Review

Next track Mann Mera is a romantic number where lyricist Aseem Ahmed Abbasee portrays the chase of a lover and the joy of watching his beloved that brings comfort to him. The solo track which is Gajendra’s own composition has flavour of chorus used appropriately at varied points that makes it catchy. Overall an average track that still seeks listener’s attention, the track has a ‘remix version’ which starts with the beautiful play of the piano but soon ends up having only an added pace to it, hence turning out to be just about fine.

If You Lie You Die – Table No. 21 Music Review

For people who love Paresh Rawal’s dialogue delivery, there is a small gift in the track, If You Lie You Die which is written by Sheershak Anand and Jaspreet Jazz. It has one liners from ‘Do Raaste (1969)’ being interspersed a couple of times, hence enhancing the overall feel of the track and bringing it closer to its theme. The title track in the vocals of Neeraj Shridhar and Jaspreet Jazz rightly sketches the theme of the movie – a thriller, which also uses portions of rap in the number. The song also uses the famous verse ‘Kaal Kare So Aaj Kar’, but on the whole is still not so impressive and interesting.

The Last Word – Table No. 21 Music Review

Overall, the album is barely passable though and won’t be able to catch up and stand amongst some good chartbusters which are currently dominating people’s attention.
