Fatso: Box-Office Expectations

The publicity of Fatso has picked up just in the last couple of weeks. As such, the film does not boast of a star cast that commands an opening at the box-office. Hence, the film will have to depend on word of mouth publicity.

Fatso: Plot

Nandini (Gul Panag) and Navin (Purab Kohli) are about to get married when disaster strikes. Navin and his friends, a hugely overweight Sudeep (Ranvir Shorey) and Yash, go out to celebrate. An accident occurs on the highway and Navin is dead.

Navin wakes up in heaven and discovers to his horror that it was a clerical error that had landed him in heaven. The man actually destined to be there was fat Sudeep with his cholesterol on overdrive! Navin makes a scene in the overcrowded waiting room of heaven and demands that he be returned to earth, and to his loved ones.

This film is about how Navin returns to earth and has to woo Nandini all over again in another guise. A delightful take on love, life, romance and the occasional accident of death.

The International lifetime achievement award was given to Morgan Freeman and Indian lifetime achievement award was given to Gulzar. The Mumbai Film Mart attracted forthcoming big ticket films like Ra.One, Don 2, Rockstar, Ladies V/s Ricky Bahl, The Dirty Picture, Desi Boyz, tabled for acquisition and distribution in the markets like Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China, Germany, France and Latin America. The Festival also held an Indo-German Script Development Workshop from October 11-13. Speakers at the workshop include the renowned directors Dani Levy, Thorsten Schulz, screenwriters Anjum Rajabali and Sooni Taraporevala amongst others.

The Turning 30!!! star wore a pretty pink lehenga with heavy jewellery while a turbaned Rishi went for a sherwani. And now for the hatke part of Gul’s wedding! Instead of the usual bevy of cars rolling in, the groom, a commercial pilot, arrived on a Royal Enfield motorcycle with Gul in the sidecar a la Jai-Veeru or Munnabhai-Circuit. Filmy factor? Check!

And there were over 20 Enfield motorcycles in the baraat; too bad we Gul wouldn’t ride any. And unlike her Bolly co-stars, the dimpled actress kept did not invite all and sundry from tinsel town but opted for a modest ceremony. Shruti Seth, Koel Puri and director Alankrita Shrivastava were among the few invited to Gul Panag’s wedding and has planned a more inclusive reception for her B-town buddies later.
