Biography: Sajid Nadiadwala, the well-known film producer was born on the 18th of February, 1966 in the City of Dreams, Mumbai. His family had already made its name in the film production department in the industry. Since 1955, his family has brought out more than 200 films. Suleiman Nadiadwala was his father and Abdul Karim Nadiadwala, his grandfather. Other famous producers belonging to his family included Habib Nadiadwala, Farruk Nadiadwala and Abdul Gaffar Nadiadwala. Sajid’s cousin Firoz Nadiadwala is also a well-known name in the industry today.

Nadiadwala started his career as an AC technician and then he started working as a spot boy and later on he graduated to become a production assistant in the production house of his uncle. Sooner he established his very own production house, ‘The Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment Private Limited’. Numerous hits have been released under the banner of Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, including ‘Judwaa’ (1997), ‘Jeet’ (1996), ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karogi’ (2004), ‘Housefull 2’ (2012), ‘Housefull’ (2010) and ‘Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega’ (2000).

His very first film as producer was the 1992 action laden ‘Zulm Ki Hukumat’ starring Dharmendra and Govinda. Bharat Rangachary was the film’s director. This film did not do well at the box office. Next year he came up with ‘Waqt Humara Hai’, starring Sunil Shetty, Mamta Kulkarni, Akshay Kumar and again directed by Bharat Rangachary. This film also was not successful at the theatres. His third film ‘Andolan’, starring Govinda, Mamta Kulkarni, Sanjay Dutt and directed by Aziz Sejawal was also a failure.

He got his first ever breakthrough with the 1996 action romantic drama, ‘Jeet’, starring Salman Khan, Sunny Deol, Karisma Kapoor and directed by Raj Kanwar. This was followed by several other films starring mostly Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar.

The 2006 film titled ‘Jaan-E-Maan’ despite having lots of expectations, failed to create much of an impact at the box office. However next year in 2007, the Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Heyy Babyy’ became a huge hit. In 2009, Sajid came out with a romantic comedy titled ‘Kambakkht Ishq’. This movie initially had a lotof worldwide media coverage due to the presence of American renowned actors like Denise Richards, Sylvester Stallone and Brandon Routh.

His very first film in 2010, ‘Housefull’ starring Deepika Padukone, Ritesh Deshmukh, Akshay Kumar, Boman Irani and Lara Dutta was a big success. On the 30th of September, 2010, he announced that a sequel to Houseful would soon be released.

That very same year on the 1st of October, 2010, Sajid released ‘Anjaana Anjaani’, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra. This film inspite of having high expectations did not do much well at the theatres. ‘Houseful; 2’ which he released on the 5th of April, 2012 was a blockbuster.

In 2009, Sajid had announced that he has intentions of remaking the film ‘Kick’ with director A. R. Murugadoss. Later on Shirish Kunder was supposed to look over this project. However in early September, Sajid himself decided to direct this film himself after having talks with Salman Khan. ‘Kick’ is scheduled to be released on April, 2013.

Another upcoming film by Sajid is ‘2 States’ based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel ‘2 States: The Story of My Marriage’. This film would be having the newbies Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor in its ranks.

Some of the other films which have been produced by him are as follows: ‘Teri Meri Kahaani’, ‘Humko Tumse Pyaar Hai’, ‘Andolan’, ‘Waqt Humara Hai’, ‘Zulm Ki Hukumat’ and several others.
