Trivia: Kumar Taurani is the Chairman and Managing Director of Tips Industries Limited, which is among the largest corporate organizations in the field of music and entertainment. He is also a film producer, and his first independent venture was ‘Prince’ in 2010.

Biography: Kumar Taurani and his brother Ramesh Taurani started Tips Industries way back in 1975 as a small shop which sold records for music giants like Saregama, Universal Music Group and Sony Music (erstwhile HMV, Music India and CBS).

The Taurani brothers made their first film ‘Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai’ in 1998. The film starred Salman Khan and Twinkle Khanna and was an average hit at the box office. Their next venture ‘Soldier’ in the same year was also a good hit and won two Filmfare awards. 2000 film ‘Kya Kehna’ produced by them was well- received and also won three awards.

In 2002, Kumar Taurani produced Ajay Devgn starrer ‘The Legend of Bhagat Singh’, which garnered two National Awards, two Filmfare Awards and five Zee Cine Awards. Notable among these were National Award for Best Regional Film (Hindi) and the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Film. Other notable and successful films from Kumar Taurani and his brother include Dil Hai Tumhara, Ishq Vishk, Race and Kismat Konnection. ‘Race’ was directed by Abbas- Mustan and became a huge hit.

 Kumar Taurani released Vivek Oberoi starrer ‘Prince’ in 2010. This was his first independently produced film, but failed to click at the box office. He quickly realized his mistakes and made sure he never repeated them while making ‘Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya’. This 2012 film was a hit and brought in good revenues for the producer.

Currently, Kumar Taurani is working on several projects. ‘Jayanatabhai Ki Luv Story’ releases on 14^th February 2013 and has Vivek Oberoi and Neha Sharma in the lead roles. The producer is also launching his son Girish opposite Shruti Hassan in a romantic drama named ‘Ramaiya Vasta Vaiya’, which will be directed by Prabhudeva. Yet another project is ‘Prince 2: The Showtime Strikes Back’, with Vivek Oberoi and probable names like Bipasha Basu, Lara Dutta, Sushmita Sen and Nandana Sen.
