English Vinglish Opening Day Box Office Collections

English Vinglish has huge critical acclaim on its site but it seems the numbers don’t comply. As per early estimates the movie made about 2.50 Crores on its opening day at the domestic box office.
There was a lot of hype over the comeback film of Sridevi however, the opening day collections were rather disappointing. As expected, the movie did better in multiplexes than that of single screen theaters.
As we stated in our previous post the movie opened to morning shows with an occupacy of about 20% but picked up in the late evening shows to about 35%. It was the multiplexes in metros and other urban centers that showed this growth.
Sridevi’s English Vinglish will highly depend on the collections of multiplexes to make a decent number at the box office. It is surprising that both this Friday’s releases could show no magic at the box office and OMG Oh My God still continues to rule the same.
The movie will really need a magic in the weekend to put some decent box office numbers to its name. Ideally a 10-12 Crore first weekend should be perfect for the budget that the movie was made on.
