“What is the budget of English Vinglish? ”
—————————————————————–
It is 15 crores, Eros bought it for 20. So, it has recouped its total budget in week 1, not bad.
20 Cr in 1 week is only Indian Box office collection of Hindi version. If u add the overseas collections also, it will exceed 30 cr easily.
What is the budget of English Vinglish? How much must it make to be called a HIT? And how much to be a SUPER-HIT?
Why don’t you add TDP’s figures too? You can even add a column for worldwide collections.
Kahaani has grossed 102 crores. Why is only half the number being reported here
Kahaani id only 60
102 will be including taxes
We are talking nett and not gross here…
Excellent report. Film started with a low amount of 2cr but is ending the week with Ten Times that amount around 20cr. Besides being a small budget film, it has already recovered its cost and is now registering profits. Surely a great week for a film that had such a slow start.
For an actress who is attempting a comeback after years without the help of any Khan, Akshay or Devgn it is a “Great” thing. OMG is undoubtedly doing well and we sincerely hope continue doing well. I hope you read yesterday’s article on OMG. Seems you have set it in your heart that we have something against Akshay. Trust me it is not so. :)
But let me draw your attention to one thing. OMG is a commercial success, agreed! but Akshay’s not charging a fee has a big hand there. :) Smell something fishy?
Thanks Mukul, appreciate your views
But somehow I have a question – When did the trade start looking at intangibles like actress making a comeback etc? This means its an emotional sympathy factor? Isnt trade meant to report based on pure collections. I can understand fans saying this but when did trade start saying ‘actress after 15 years’ , ‘ No Khan, Kapoor etc’, isnt it meant to be consistent reporting for all films?
Are you going to do the same for Aiyaa as it has no known face beside Rani too if it nets 20 crores in Week 1? Same for Ishq in Paris f it does 19 crores like EV in week 1? I sure will be watching the reports on these 2 movies :-)
I mean its just 19 crores which is actually nothing great, the movie got consistent 4/5 by everyone, it was also a well written and directed film which connected a chord, its not only attributable to Sridevi at all. I dont think however big an actress whether Sridevi or Madhuri can rise if the script is not written well and the movie/screenplay is not projected well. The title is very misleading is what I am saying and I have not seen this thing for any other movie till now where the title is saying something and the content below doesnt resonate with it :-)
“In for a great week.” I guess you got it that I was talking about the 1st week which ends today. The text is the 2nd para where I say it won’t might not do all that well refers to the 2nd week.
And trust me trade looks at other factors too. For starters do you know the making cost of English Vinglish? Consider it and you will know the movie has done pretty well for itself in week 1.
But you have a valid point. Thanks for bringing it up. Sometimes do need criticism to not wander off track. :)
And Mukul I must laud you for maybe being the first trade person to actually reply to an observation giving a feedback and bother to answer it and note it down too.
Great going!!
Thanks! A readers feedback is most important for any media business. Keep visiting :)
Thanks Mukul, I somehow felt all websites are giving it a positive twist which I dont understand why.
Let me give u another eg of boxofficecapsule.com. I am not sure if I am supposed to mention other sites here but let me still do.
Yest it reported Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday as 2/1.7/1.5 and today it for full week report has changed it to 2/1.9/1.8. I mean how can anyone be so inconsistent by just increasing 40L out of nowhere? Does it think people are fools to not notice it? The same website reported Sunday as 7.75 and next day changed it back to 6. You get what I am trying to say. Thats why I am sayng it gives the feeling its deliberately being played up to look good and its not hard to feel suspicious about it.
I am not sure about this but the change in numbers can be coz of the following reason. It’s tough to get exacts on the same day. Most of the numbers we mention are approximations and change by a few lacks when we get exacts. If you read my posts I usually mention “made an approx” or “made about” in daily updates. Getting exacts of so diverse a country is somewhat time consuming. :)
Again the article misleading to what is written below
Article says EV is in for a great week and right below you make below lines. How is it a great week at just 19 crores and if movie is doing well in only certain plexes in certain metros. Something really fishy here. OMG in its 2nd week is doing much greater than EV in its 1st week, yet I dont see even half the glowing terms being used for that movie.
