30 Films In 10 Weeks As Pre-IPL Rush Begins | Box Office
Just when it seemed that filmmakers were willing to take on the might of IPL, a mad rush is happening between filmmakers to bring their products before cricket starts talking. As things stand today, from next week till the beginning of IPL, there are as many as 30 films that would hit the screens. Surprisingly, only a few of these are run of the mill ‘filler releases’ and most in fact boast of some notable names.
“This is insane,” comments an insider, “You can barely accommodate two major releases in one week but an average of three and that too week after week is way too much to handle. There are going to be casualties for sure. How can you expect audience to watch even half of these 30 movies in such a short time span?”
Some of the most notable films all set to arrive are Inkaar, Race 2, Vishwaroop, David, Special Chabbis (26), Murder 3, Kai Po Che!, Zila Ghaziabad, The Attacks Of 26/11, Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns, 3G, Jolly LLB, Mere Dad Ki Maruti and last but not the least, Himmatwala.
“If it were just these films then also one would have expected some sanity at the box office. However look at so many other medium to small budget films that are releasing alongside. They can of course hope to have their chances since you never know how a film with some good content ends up catching audience’s fancy. However one thing is for sure that it would be an uphill task for them to make their presence felt”, a source adds.
On their part, those who are scampering for their release have their own story to tell.
Says a filmmaker on condition of anonymity, “There is as much space that producers can enjoy. They could have brought out their film during IPL but now even biggies have decided to invade that space. Waiting post IPL is out of question because this is when summer blockbusters start arriving one after another. They have to take our chances. It is either now or never. They have to fight it out and keep their fingers crossed.”
